I'm building a Dynaflight Fly Baby and was wondering what engine people are using in it? I have a new OS 1.08 lying around that could go in it...but wanted a first gasser for it. I've been looking at the Carr converted Homelite 25CC with CH Ignition.....Zenoh 23 etc. Anyone out there running Gas and what size and hows the performance?....Thanks Johnny

Johnny, I'm building the same kit. I was going to put a Saito 120 on mine but also decided to go to gas. I looked at and read up on all of the engines that would be a good fit. I have decided on the new Fuji 32CC. It has a ton of great reviews (grain of salt, please) nad only goes for about $10..00 more than a Zenoah 23. It is at the top end of the curve for this model but you can always throttle back. Go here to read up on it.

Hope this helps, Ed.....

Interesting...I have looked at the Fuji but wondered if the cowl would cover it. Are you far enough along to mount it and see how the cowl covers it? I know the G23 will fit. I have seen the larger Fuji 50 (I believe it was) and the club member with it is very impressed with the performance.....Johnny

I built a Dynaflite Flybaby a couple years ago. I used the Saito 1.20. It was by far more than enough power. My Flybaby weighed in at just 10 pounds even. Almost all of them I have seen with gassers are in the 14 pound range. I think they will fly at 14 pounds, but ten is better. I think the Saito is the better choice. Take it for what it's worth.

I have not gotten that far as yet. Only have the tail feathers complete and am finishing up the wing. I have not gotten the engine as yet. have to save a few more pennies... Also, Ponca, thanks for your opinion. As I said, I have a new Saito 120 sitting here but I just wanted to try gas. If the Fuji does not fit up correctly on the cowl I will probably go to the 120 and put the Fuji in my Bridi Rearwin Speedster. I know it will fit there. I could probably put a V/8 in that monster.....

I have been flying one with a G-23 in it and it flies it very well. It will take off at half throttle and I cruise around at half throttle or less. It fits under cowl except I had to cut a small hole for the carb. Really I think the Fuji 32 would be over kill for this plane. I had to put the elv. servos in the back of the plane in order to balance it without adding weight to the tail.

Thanks for the input so far...It looks like the G23 seems to be the best for fit and weight / power ratios....Johnny

The video "Warbirds Over Delaware" (Propwash videos, I think) has a guy in it flying a Dynaflite Flybaby with a 25cc Homelite in it. The performance looks almost unlimited. His is 12.5 lbs. I have a Z23 and it's a great engine, but I started converting Homelites because the prices of the Zenoahs got so high.
