just came back from a little park in upstate PA with two great wooden roller coasters, they made you feel like the cars were coming off the tracks lots of out of your seat stuff and good turns. I like the old wooden coasters and every thing about them but I also like steel coaster but you just feel so safe in the steel coasters, that feeling of I'm going to die is just not there. my vote would have to be wood coasters . The park I was at is knoebels.

Interesting thread. I prefer the steel ones, the wooden ones are TOO loud and rickety for me, I feel like they're going to fall apart at the wrong time or something.

depends, i usually go for wooden, because they feel out of control, steel ones feel secure, and doesn't have the same fear factor (not the show) but there is one coaster i like better than all wooden, the Dueling dragons, over at universal, smooth, twisty and fast, with dangling feet. the hulk is second, but getting shot at 70mph through a loop and down another 100feet into another couple loops at 85Mph is fun, but it is brutal to your equilibrium.

so far my fave wooden coaster is the Viper at six flags, i used to like the eagle more, but it has gotten so rickety, that the carts have slowed down, the raging bull is crap.

I like wood coasters for different reasons that I would like steel coasters for. The wood coasters are more chaotic and you feel unsafe. The steel coasters feel very safe and secure, so theyre not as thrilling as a wood coaster would be. But making a coaster out of steel enables you to do more radical things with track, like loops and rolls etc etc. It's hard to choose

I like steel roller coasters. I wear glasses and I had jaw surgery years ago so my head being clamped in a restraint while living through a months worth of dirt road in 2 minutes doesnt appeal to me.

i like the steel ones because they can do all sorts of stuff that wooden ones can't. like loops, barrel rolls etc.

Steel. You can push the limits of design and physics with steel coasters. Woodies are for the "old timers" that just like to ride waves and go in circles.......no loops or corkscrews or upside down riding on woodies.
