Is it normal not to use a rate at maximum? I usually fly with a new plane with a dual rate radio DX7 set at Rate setting 1- 70% for rudder, ailerons, elervator than going to setting 2, after getting use to it, which for me is 125%, which I set into the radio. This Is usually good but do some planes need lower settings. I'm new to this but have one small plane that is real sensitive if the ailerons are set to 125 and the slightest extra lever movement causes it to go out of control. At a lower setting it is fine but do some planes require the setting to always be set lower and can't take a higher setting. All my other planes can handle the 125 setting. Thanks Ron

most models other than 3D types only need very small amounts of control to ailerons and elevators, rudder can be any setting on most sport type models. allways follow what the model specs say in terms of control throws and start from there for the first few flights until you think you may need more throws , remember too much control throw can make or really break a model. set your low rates to the required minimum and adjust your high rates to double.
