I want to remove old covering and recover with a pearl white.....to keep the residue of old colors from showing through, is their a primer or sometning that I can use and then cover over...Thanks WC

Use your heat gun and you can get most of the coevering off pretty easy. Any leftover color could be just lightly sanded off. I dont think you will have much problem with the color showing through. I dont think a primer is the best route in this situation.
