crash and burn -> Aeroworks 60/90 Edge Repaired And Ready To Fly! (3/16/2002 10:18:35 AM)

I just completed repairs to my AW 60/90 Edge 540 ARF. I had a rough landing due to an incorrect C.G. which was in the original instruction sheet.

AW realized the misprint and has posted an update on their site.

My plane tip stalled on it's maiden voyage. A buddy was doing the honors for me, he is an instructor. But experience did not come through in this case.

My battery was placed in the fuse just behind the wing on the fateful flight. It is now even with the front of the wing. That's how far off the C.G. was!!

The plane came apart on the fuse just ahead and behind the wing and the damage was manageable. AW sent me a free wing tube for my troubles, but not a free plane.

My spinner was the only item damaged, radio and engine, etc. are fine.

I also installed tail braces and put the elevator servos on the tail to help with flutter problems.

I will update this thread with a report once I get to the field.

Anyone else had trouble with this model???

Tom

jnjacksn -> .60/.90 Edge (3/19/2002 10:19:57 PM)

My plane left the ground for the first time over a month ago, before the CG discovery. It has had been a handfull ever since. After making many changes, a few more test flights, and reading the ARF thread on this site, I had an O.K. flying plane. Far better than its first flight, but still not as stable as some others have stated. I "re-kitted" it on March the 10th. Hopefully, the second version will be much better. It was a head on into the big round ball. Not as much damage as I would have thought. I can say this... It crashes very well!
