I tore down my Stug and am beginning the rebuild process. I'll capture my progress as I move along. With everything stripped off the chassis I filled holes and removed the rear plastic idlers.

I then added the metal adjustable idlers and added a steel washer on the bore through the chassis for the output shafts. These fit tight and are a real cost effective way of beefing up the drive line.

It now sits waiting for paint.

THis may take me awhile, but I will post pictures as I move along

Nice start YHR, the adjusters look like a nice upgrade to have.

Do you plan any change or improvement in electronics?

"These fit tight and are a real cost effective way of beefing up the drive line. "

I would like more information on these. Do they reduce the slop in the sprockets?

They did in my Tiger.

Though you have to keep them well lubricated or they'll wear down and go lose again.

Yes they keep things nice and tight and reduce the slop completely.

Hopefully Darkith can help with this one. I was thinking of heat sinking the new ESC, but I am not sure if it is required? I wouldn't mind hearing from anybody who knows about the new components, and what may be required to protect them from heat buildup. For a minimum I was going to drill holes in the plastic cover to allow better air flow, and then perhaps install a fan to keep air moving.

Just from looking at the Drive board and the components they have used, I think this board will not need a fan or heat sink or even holes as long as you are running stock! But I would like to hear David's analisys on how many amps this board can take. I can tell it is a huge improvement even from the RX-14 board but i don't have any numbers for you!
David should receive his tank this week!!!

I got the holes on the chassis filled, and removed all the accessories on the super structure.

I painted the whole shebang chrome, and will use this as the base coat. Red oxide and then German grey will finish it off.

Looking very good so far YHR and the washer idea for drive shaf support fantastic ( wish I had thought of that one ). Now I am thinking that glueing several washers together and then drilling the centre to fit may work even better ???. Once again thanks for the excelent thread. All the best for now
Alan

Wow it looks already very nice !!
I had a question though, why do you keep that strange light on the front right mudguard ? I have never seen a Stug III with that kind of light.

I don't know any better . I have a walk around Stug book, maybe I should reference it!!!!!! THanks for pointing that out. I'll have a look and see where it should be.
