I found this at Raidentech under their mini rc airplanes. When I first saw it I thought how cool that must be. I remember when all we had was wind up rubber band and free throw balsa planes. I can remember thinking how cool it would be to attach some flight gear to it and control it from a transmitter. Back then the only other thing I knew of was the control line planes and I just didn't want one of those. Well here it is, someone made my childhood dream come true.
These little planes are the closest I have seen to the old balsa wood free throw airplanes with electronics attached so you can control it. I am sorry I didn't get pictures before I put them together. Out of the box, it took me about 15 minutes to put them together and about 20 minutes to charge the battery. The $19.00 kit comes with 2 planes (one fighter plane and one Bi-plane) and one set of electronics and one controller. The esc/receiver is wired to the two motors. All you do is snap the esc/receiver into plane, then as you can see in the pictures, the planes have plastic mounting slots in the wings for the motors. The motors are in-cased in a plastic housing that has mounting hardware. All you do is slip the motor in the mount and twist it into place. It stays there very nicely. This is also creates a very new and cool way to trim the flight. If it is turning one way you just twist/adjust one motor or the other to be a little off center to push the plane straight.
These planes fly very well. I wish they had two frequencies so my son and I could fly at the same time. These would be great for dog fights.
The only thing I found is that the foam is a little weak and when you crash the nose gets bent. I knew that over time it would get worse and the plane probably wouldn't fly very well. This was an easy fix. In the pictures you can see where I glued some carbon fiber flat rods to reinforce the plane. It is very stiff now and the problem is gone.
I would recommend these to anyone looking for some fun in the backyard.
