Just acquired some models and accessories from a former modeler. He says he scratch built this Aeronca from BUSA plans. I seem to remember them kitting this plane many years ago.

Does anyone have experience with this model. Does it fly like a Cub? The wingspan is 108" and he installed a Saito 130 twin. He only flew it one time and landed off the runway because of dropping a cylinder. The plane seems to be slightly heavy, although I have not weighed it. I think it will need more power to fly it comfortably.

I've always thought the C3 was one of the ugliest planes ever built, aka the flying bathtub.

I'm not sure if the W shape struts go with this plane or not, but he gave them to me with the plane. Do they look familiar?

Anyone recognize the glider?

Can you weigh it?? I would "guess-timate" about 16/17lbs. with that airframe/ engine would be scale like. Of course what the hell do I know?

I have a friend who is currently flying an Aeronca of similar size - I'll ask him to check this thread and PM you. If you hear nothing further, please PM me and I'll 'remind' him.

Hi- just saw post. These are 'lazy' and 'dopey' flying airplanes- just like the real ones were! Takes co-ordinated rudder- aileron. Improve aileron response by having only one go up while other stays nuetral. This helps with adverse yaw on these long winged, short fuselaged jobs!

Work in progress! I normally don’t like to show a project till it is completed. I will have plenty more pictures in the completion to show some of the detail as this will be a fun fly, and also let every one know that I made molds for the nose parts and have temps for the gear. Balsa USA will still supply the planes, most of the info is left out for the scratch builder.

A little about C-3s. In 1953 I bought a basket case C-3 for $125. Now I know that it was a lot of money to spend but I got a spare engine and a spare wing plus aileron for that price. At any rate I restored the ship and learned to fly in it.

The model pictured appears to be a very poor scale representation of a 1934 edition Aeronca. And no C-3s had struts. There were 8 flying wires and 4 landing wires.

The model (like the real ship) has long high-aspect wings. This feature (low span loading) permitted the real C-3s to fly on the little power that the Aeronca E113 engines produced ( 45 and less HP). Obviously the model's long high-placed wing will require lots of rudder-aileron coordination.

Please don't call my beloved C-3 ugly. Sniff. Sniff. It hurts my feelings. So there!

Hi- look at my Aeronca in my Gallery. Other than the missing windshield the airplanes look like this- no struts. Only wires. I think these airplanes are 'purdy'!
