crash - I really like your nickname!

Thanks for the info. Any advantage of the 3550 over the 3200 Kv motor? They're only 2 bucks different.

Would a 30A ESC handle these (28A MAX)? Otherwise I'd have to go to a 40A ESC.

I really appreciate the help.

Chuck

I ran a 30a ESC with spektrum DX7...kept having kick outs. A 30a should be able to handle light sport flying but anything harder...40a.

Motors....3550KV with 40a ESC is perfect for these. Loose the stock blades...they're too heavy. I run ONLY Align 315mm Pro, they're great.

crash - the 3550 kv & 40 A ESC are on the way. Thanks. I'll look into those blades. Need the rest of the electronics for the EXI first LOL!

The reason I say Align 315mm blades is because it gives good head speed, tracking is perfect, and they're way lighter than the stock garbage. Good move on the 3500/40a combo, you won't ever regret that move. I just purchased 8 of the HTX-900 servos, gonna give 'em a try. Reviews are about 93% positive, and I know two people who bought them and say they seem pretty good.

crash - I've got a couple of those servos as well. Didn't fit in the Guru so I thought I'd try it in the EXI. The case is bigger than the gearbox so to fit on the inside I'll need to take the frame apart to get them in. I should probably take it all apart & check for thread lock any way (life according to Finless!).

Speaking of servos - can anybody recommend a decent (read that inexpensive) tail servo? My Guru won't get off the ground so I haven't been able to test the one I bought for it - Hitec metal gear maybe a 56 or a 65 not sure.

Dude - what's a "DX"? That sounds about as cheap as the Align ones "crash" was talking about. Is it worth putting carbon fiber on the tail? What's so good about carbon fiber? Toughness? I'll need that!

Have a good day.

DX is "Deal Extreme" a place that sells heli parts. Carbon fiber tail boom....cant see a reason other than being lighter than aluminum, so why do it? Besides....aluminum bends in a crash...sometimes repairable where carbon fiber explodes in a crash.
Servo on tail....I'm running a JR DS-285MG....I love it and it's survived two horrific crashes.

Yo JM....I would love to run my Landcruiser through that killer looking "Japanese" style garden you have! Is that WA state or down south of me? I can pretend to be in a fantasy-world, just like most thoughts that cross my wittle mind......

Crash...Any vids of your heli running on a 112T pinion? Balistic would prolly be a good word to describe things until the word Explosion and Shrapnel come to mind...

Peace

That's cool! I have to wait to see it until I am at work and on high speed. I have one point to make on the tail booms. The carbon boom is bound to expand less in the heat. I had my heli in the car at work and when I took it out to fly the tail belt was soo tight that the esc could barely start the motor. When I got ti home in the AC the belt got to the point of almost being too loose. I may try a carbon boom just because of this.

You must be having horrific heat. In winter....I can see the results of the cold on the belt/boom, so it has to apply to heat as well.

Yes, it's been very warm. You can see the opposite effect in the winter, tight belt and go outside and it becomes sloppy loose!
I would like to know if the carbon booms stop this problem.
Anyone using them?

Being how the belt is RUBBER and fiber, I think to a degree, yer not gonna really eliminate the prob completely. This is my theory...CF, it explodes on impact and is generally un-useable after one crash. Aluminum...it will bend, but generally, fixable most of the time. I DONT think the boom has as much to do with it as the belt it's self. You can go with the Align torque tube system for the 450, but survivability in even a minor tail strike is zero....so you're kinda between a rock and a hard spot no matter which way you go, I just deal with it for what it is.

Yeah, No way I'm spending that much cash for the shaft drive tail. There can't be that much of an advantage to it and I still crash so a boom is much cheaper to replace.
I still might try a CF boom to see if it is the belt or the boom that causes the problem.

Saw your video today. I still don't have the guts to try piros that low! I have to stay at least two mistakes high!

Agreed...shaft drive tail isn't worth it at this point.

I can do piros at 2", nose in getting better every day, stall turns since last summer...can't loop yet though....

I found the protos big $$$...Italy (?). The Logo is made in Germany, I heard it's pretty good too but also expensive.

Nice pic of the .30 up there.

Actually the Protos is much cheaper than the Trex 500. Brand new they come with the motor and SAB cf blades for something like $330. I got this one with a GY401, four flightpower batteries, a custom FG canopy and a bunch of spare parts for $295.
My theory is that a 500e and a 50 or 90 nitro is all the helis that I need.

You know EXI makes a 500 right? I'm just not ready to move up, maybe a year...maybe two....batteries and parts for 500's are up pretty good.
