The Protos is fixed! Dropping the timing to fifteen degrees and running the Zippy Rhinos instead of the Flightpowers I have all of the power that I can stand for over five minutes and the motor and batteries are just a little warm.
This thing is AWESOME![>:]

Ok, starting to get POed waiting for the bearings for the EXI. I'm really missing my small heli as it's the only one that I'm brave enough to risk on airobatics! Missed alot of good quiet flying days too! Oh well, I took the 9257 off of it to put on the Protos and replaced it with a HG201 from Ino Lab (HC). Anyone running one of these?

Well, the gyro isn't fixed. It is still doing the same. I noticed a few things. The linkage for the tail is really long, I cannot have the rod perfectly centered on the gyro and the servo is as far foward as possible. If you picture the gyro it is about 30 degrees off center. I also ordered some new tail blades.

I also bought a step down to replace the diode I put in just incase as well as lighter carbon blades.

Any other ideas? They should be here today or Tuesday :|

hey mack look at these pictures below.   My rudder is at neutral and this is how it looks mechanically.   I fabricated my own tail push rod.  Its carbon fiber.    pick up one of these.  http://www.mars480.com/tail-linkage-amp-tail-boom-support-set.html

then cut the carbon rod to your desire length.

Noob,

Today I replaced Blades, nicer lighter 325mm carbon blades. Much nicer than my Align carbons.

I also replaced the linkage from servo to rear linkage, as well as the diode with the 5.1V regulator.
The stock linkage with the EXI kit was unbelievably long. It was almost hitting the rear box where the gyro sits! The Align Trex 450 linkage is much shorter, few inches, and works like a dream.

IT WORKS!

Tail holds pretty good. Just need to dial in the gyro settings a bit.

I am super excited and I just flew through a battery. Planning to do at least 2 more tonight!

Darn.....I need parts, my checking card is hosed up till "?". I had a helluva crash yesterday...idleup crash. Frame roached, main mast , tail rotor shaft, collective servos all stripped...massive amount of damage...most I ever had in one crash. I got most parts on hand already. If I had 3 servo gearsets, I'd already have it rebuilt/flyable. I saw it do stuff I never saw a heli do before (LMAO). It wasn't the heli...I dumbthumbed and FORGOT I was in idle up. Awsome wreck tho......

ouch!! that sux.. i toasted the frame on mine.. beyong repair.. i ordered the carbon fiber/cnc frame assembly for 29 bucks.. its a pretty good deal for what you get.. maybe the carbon fiber will hold up a little better for the next crash.. we'll see.. lol.. the only reason for the last crash was the tail belt broke in idle up, and you know the rest!!

its under 3mm ,   if you're concerned about the rod guides...dont.   This rod is rigid enough to not use any guides.  but I do use guides for my carbon push rod just to be on the safe side.   It will probably fit on your current guides.
yes it makes a difference.

LMAO...yeah, I know the rest ALL TOO WELL. I thought about CF framing. But really, the Aluminum is pretty tough unless you stuff it full bore into the ground. CF is lighter, which causes more effecient motor use and less heat probs but I DOUBT any tougher than aluminum. I've been pushing real hard this summer...I've had 5 major wrecks. If the price tag is above $30 for parts, I'll just order another plastic version and stuff my CNC head and tail on it....like I did last time. I guess I need to calm down on the sticks for a bit, maybe go back to scalers for a while because I don't do stupid stuff with a scaler fuse on it. I still haven't rolled it yet, but there's no doubt in my mind, I can do it. Just gotta make sure there's a LOT of air between the heli and the ground when I do roll it....and lots of forward speed. I need to get a roll DONE before the end of September because I doubt I'll do much winter flying this year.

Huey ~

Glad you got your Protos running cooler ! I want one !!!!

Crash ~

Plus with the aluminum frames I like also because there's less chance of any ESD happening unlike the CF frames. But you know I love CF ! The Aluminum is tough I agree ! And its all not that much heavier than the CF anyway, and so its still good to go in my book...

Here is some older pics of Align's aluminum, and CF frames for a quicky comparison in weights. Not much ! (Trex 450)

Crash, Just go for it! Rolls are easier than loops, Just make sure that your collective is at center stick or the heli will corkscrew a little.
PS Fly at least three mistakes high!

LMAO...the way my luck is holding....5 mistakes high might not be enough. Thanks for the tip on the collective. When I get this POS back together, I will do a roll before winter hits. My goal this summer was loops and rolls. I'd like to try a forward flip now that I have back flips down too.

Jeff....the weight between the two don't even make a lot of difference. I do believe the Aluminum would be more durable in a hard crash.

dang.. now u got me thinking i shoulda went with aluminum.. but i have trashed many aluminum frames.. so i figured i would see how the CF holds up.. plus it comes with all the cnc aluminum parts that are normaly plastic.. with new bearings and all for 29 bones shipped im not gonna complain.. i haven't even tried a roll just yet, but i think its prolly easier than you think.. front and back flips are just very easy.. i can literaly do constant backflips and keep the heli in the same spot. but i practice a lot on that one. lol.. maybe its time to try a roll also.. its just hard to force yourself to try a new move after you have just rebuilt the whole heli.. but its part of it.. one day crahses will be few and far between for us.. some day!

With these things, every time you push it, a crash is possible. Some days, I should have crashed, but lucked out of it....sure wasn't skill. This last crash was bad. I tore the frame apart thinking maybe I could salvage it.....nope, it's stretched and twisted pretty good. I still got the frame of my first EXI...it is salvagable, so that's what I'll do just to get into the air again.

Whew, that's good to hear ! I've only done loops and backflips, and I'am petrified for some reason to try one of those rolls.... One of these days maybe..... You go first Vic !

I'm putting the airframe back together today, I'll be waiting for servo parts for about 7 days (average for Hobby City). Then another 3 days to dial it in. Close to 2 weeks before I fly it again. Trust me...before the daytime high temps go to 45degF, I will have done a roll. We still get 50-60 degF days most of October (first 3 weeks)...all down hill from there. I expect maybe an inch or two of snow around Halloween. Been a WET and COOL summer.....we're gonna get HIT this winter, and it's gonna be hard.

Hey guys! When you do backflips, do you stop at inverted or do you go all of the way back to upright? I'm trying to prepare to try it but I don't know which would be easier.

it depends if you are comfortable hovering inverted.. if not i would keep on until you are back upright.. i found it easier to stop and hover inverted so things would settle down (since my first transictions were not very smooth) .. now either way is very easy.. just don't let your nerves get the best of you.. some of my best flights are when i am in the ( i dont care what happens) mood.. lol.. good luck

I just get it so high I almost loose orientation tail in, and I yank the stick straight back. She goes nose up, then comes through inverted continuing around and when she's level, let the stick back to center. The big trick is make sure you pull the stick straight back....and 'yer high enough. Back flips are no brainers.

OK, Thanks Guys, I'll get brave and try it the next time I fly somewhere there is some room to screwup! If I mess up in the back yard the heli goes off to the woods to do some expensive logging!

I fly over 5 acers of mowed field but is bordered north by power lines, east has a tree line south has a house, and west has houses and trees...like flying in a postage stamp...it's that square. But it's just big enough to let you get stupid, and you won't hit nothing....but the ground, if you play it right.

I have five acres here at the house but it's trees, trees, trees! My buddies place has 140 acres with about fourty in the middle that's open and has a flying field in the middle.
Now that they cut the hay around it you can get crazy and still find the body if you fail.
