hey guys, just found this thread.. i have been flying the exi for quite a while now.. i have 1 flying and 2 extras still in the box.. i also have a copterx carbon fiber version.. both the copterx and the exi have the same exact setup.. gy401 9650 tail.. hs 65mg servos, scorpion -8 motor, align esc, 6v 5 amp bec's, ar6200 dx6i.. love them both.. i fly the exi mostly.. in the process of learning 3d.. having some down time right now.. had to send my spektrum rx back for repair, they replaced it with a new one, installed it and i still lose control/bind.. so now the tx is on its way back to be replaced.. man it sux.. many crashes due to the spektrum messing up.. anyone have this problem with their spektrum?? i do love the exi 450 though.. it flys great.. i have done a few inverted hovers and flips.. now i can't wait to get it back together again. as far as the tail belt i use a maverick brand belt.. its way tougher than the stocker on the trex or the exi.. you can get them at readyheli.com

Sheer.. maybe you can help out here then... I'm having trouble with my EXI with hooking up the servos to my AR6100e. I've tried quite a few combos but can't seem to dial in the right combo to get this all working right. Can you stear me right and let me know which servo is plug'd into what slot on the Rx. I'd like to get my heli in the air this week

appreciate any help you can give

ok here ya go.. this is with the tail of the heli facing you (as if you were actually sitting inside the heli cockpit lets say) left cyclic servo goes to AUX1.. right side servo goes to AILE. rear servo goes to ELEV.. GYRO hooks up to RUDDER jack,, GYRO GAIN wire goes to GEAR jack.. ok so here are some settings that i have to get the servos moving in the right directions.. in reverse menu.. all are set to N except pitch, set pitch to R .. swash mix is AILE +105% ELEV +105% and PITCH is -100% .. if you need more help ir want more settings to get you started let me know.. hope this helps.

Thanks...if I had a 6i, I might have been able to help. I worked HOURS to get mine right by trial and error, but I got it.

Well I started off writing down the combos as I tried them and moved the plugs in a rotation then when that was finished another set/style of rotation. I would get close but things would always be just out by a bit and I didn't think I could fly the heli with the swash only working 80%.

So with these settings it has made it a WHOLE lot easier, many thx... Got the wires tucked and I'm gonna be doing the final setup tomorriow weeehooo... then fly this puppy and workat avoiding the trees...

Thx again guyzz...

happy fly'n

Sorry I couldn't been more help, I had to stumble through it till I got it and UNLIKE you....I didn't WRITE it down. I know.....it's a pain....once it's good though, just copy it to the next model, and write the settings down, you'll be good to go.

Thats one thing I haven't done YET and that record my settings somewhere... the manual makes the choice an obvious one. I think you have the DX7 and mine is th 6i so the settings will be similar but a tad different. After all you as a maker wouldn't want the more expensive Tx to be the same as the less expensive radio now would you...

I hugely appreciate the help guyz. Now I can get on with the programming and fly'n. this is my first 450 and I'm excited to see it in the air. I love my King2 but I am itch'n to see how this one does at doge'n trees too... lol

I do hope you get it nailed down...it can be frustrating. I've got a DX6 comming that I'm gonna have to program from an HBKII over to an EXI-450. I've not programmed a DX6 to EXI-450, it's gonna take me a bit but I'll get 'er....I may record the data like I did for the HBKII, which I still have.

BTW...the first time I spooled up a EXI-450, it was very intimidating. It's a lot louder and you can hear the power, you'll get used to it but it's a real bone shaker the first time.

I've heard the DX6i was a P.O.S., I know a few guys who dumped them. I had the DX6 which had it's own problems (CCPM) but you could compensate through programming and raising the swash height, and the DX6 was useable. I currently have the DX7, and it had problems also. It wouldn't connect to the RX correctly. The fix is at the factory, they just upload improved software to the CMOS. The connect problem is for me as simple as putting the TX antenna next to the heli, turn it on, and then power up the heli...it connects instantly, and operates fine....I just have to keep the TX in close proximity of the RX when powering up. I may or may not send it in for the improved software. When the CMOS battery dies, it's gonna drop programming anyway and it'll have to be re-loaded so until it becomes a problem, it's something I can live with.

so whats the CMOS?? the battery you are talking about must hold the programming memory correct?? my dx6i started to lose its bind or "lockout" while hovering or in flight.. even if its only ten feet away.. i have received the new rx with the quick connect feature.. but its not quick enough to resist a crash.. mine locks out and stays that way until i rebind it.. but its on its way back to be replaced.. i wish i just had bought a good quality FM radio system.. i do love the programming and ease of operation that the spektrum has... its just ahed of its time, or was not tested enough to get the bugs worked out..

The CMOS is the chip in the TX that holds the basic programming that is uploaded at the factory. If the battery dies, or the CMOS data becomes corrupted, the TX is useless at that point and can only be restored at a facility that's equipted to do it. Your computer you are using has CMOS and that tells your computer what drives you have, boot sequence, memory, the type and size hard drive, a bunch of basic stuff that has nothing to do with the operating system, just the hardware. You might want to consider Futaba 6EXH, DX7, or the Eclipse 7....all proven systems. Even a DX6 would be more reliable than what you're running now. I'm not sold as yet on Futaba's FASST 2.4gHz systems as yet, but I do know a couple people who are running them without problems. I recommend you dump the DX6i as soon as possible and if you prefer FM....the Eclipse 7 is a nice radio system, I used the Electron 6 dual shift RX with it, and it worked well. I do however, like the DX7 BETTER than the Eclipse 7...JMO.

I have the Futaba T7c 2.4ghz fasst.I like everything about it except the $100.00 recievers.......ouch.Both of my rxs bind before you have the deans all the way on,and they don't drop out or lose bind. From listening to you guys talking specktrum stuff,I think the futaba might call the same functions with different names.I would like a bigger capacity tx battery too

man.. i am so pissed off that i bought spektrum.. thought i was really buying a top notch setup for sport flying.. live and learn i guess.. maybe my new TX will yield better performance and faster binding... sometimes the gyro initializes before the spektrum binds..

LOL....I know that ain't right. My DX7 is working fairly well, I can't complain...the DX7 is the best radio I've ever owned in my opinion....RX's are $45 for park fliers and heli's. Full range RX runs about $100 like the futaba.

Lol.... Don't worry, you've just came upon a stumbling block with a faulty unit from the start it sounds like... I've had my DX-7 for a year now, and have had no issues with it whatsoever... I've been very pleased with it. I'am bettting you'll be set right, once you get the new unit. I have heard some issues with the DX6i's however, like the 'scroll wheel' and some having binding issues, but in general it seems the most so far have been satisfied. I haven't really heard any issues with the DX-7, so worse comes to worse you could always go that route...

Good luck to ya, & I hope your new TX treats a better....

You have to realize that the Spectrum radios are the entry market radios for RC. Just like the King2 is the entry market for heli's. They are both great for what you are buying, IMO.
Its to bad that Futaba has to royally GOUGE people looking at buying a good Tx. You can spend from 300 to 5000 for a Futaba. Being as I'm NOT independently wealthy and can't work I have to stretch the coin as much as I can. So the only real alternative to taking out a mortgage for a radio is to buy the next step up from a stock junky radio to a.... Spectrum.

I started to spin te bird up in the house here and SWEET!!! Man the motor I got in it really sounds like it could eat holes in trees and not even notice them. This is going to be nice. Quite a bit smoother than the lil K2 I have too, can't wait to fly the beastie.

I don't know though.... Some of the top flyers in the country like Curtis Youngblood & Jason Krause & many others are running on a DX-7.... I'am not sure there to 'Entry level' so to speak...
