Thanks,
Your tunnel looks faster than any of mine, SITT'IN STILL!
I am very jealous of your vehicle, as I want it, lol.
1900kv on 4s, very nice. That will be sick son on 40mm prop. Jeez, maybe 42mm.

Yep, 1515-2.5D. Older Neu motor. Lawless worked by Melb tunnel boater to fit donk onto plate evenly.
I am only a hack too, just lerv tunnels.

Hi Ozzie Crawl

That outboard looks great and seems to be the Hyper Performance.....

What's the quality like? Any comments?

Here is the K&B conversion I did with a fibreglass home made custom cover. Was going to mount it on that Catamaran but changed my mind as its a too heavy hull.....

Set box with epoxy an hour ago. pasted stringers underneath box with thickened west system 2 part epoxy and used filler to thicken up. then filled thickend blend into a syringe and put all around box to seep into box and hul where cut out. Will let set overnight and then do another batch of less thick epoxy and pour over same spots to fill any voids and make watertight.

Peter,

FYI...Dubro 3.5cc motor mount arrived and fits old OS.21 nitro hole mounts in transom. I even used the old mounting bolts as they were shorter than the dubro supplied ones.

If you remember, with the old OS motor mounting system. You drilled holes into the transom and then screwed the hollowed set screws into the holes and you bolted the mount to these. This allows you to raise and lower mount by loosening the 4 bolts and not needing to get inside to nuts. This setup is perfect with the dubro mount as the dubro mount allows you to tilt engine up or down to trim bow up or down. Motor did not arrive today, but that is all that is left and a few odds and ends to tighten up. Motor is coming Friday. No rush as we're supposed to get another snow storm over the weekend.

Fuller water pickup. Does anyone know of a pickup that fits easilt in the motor plate?
Not sure if my 1/8" brass tubing setup will work as it may shake loose and I want to be able to adjust it. The plate is a little thin to make any errors.

Chip

Chip,
Good to know about the Dubro mount fitting the O.S. hole. Makes things easier for you.
Indeed no rush mate, take your time and get it right.
Also in a previous post you asked about bending the brass tube? Well, I have been informed, you can purchase the Dubro 1/8 tube bender. I think there is a smaller or bigger one? Expensive, FYI.
See the shapes in the pic? Then maybe dremel an end 45 degrees for your water pickup.
I use one of these for a water pickup on my REK drive: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCX11&P=Z

Ha, My first tunnel was the Dumas Sprint wood kit that I built with 8 tonne of epoxy. I too had the EP1 motor, but left it stock thinkin' I would have the fastest boat in the world. 7.2v on the EP1 I had. One Ni Mh stick. It was a disgrace. As bad as the Wingrush!!!
Ended up putting a Titan 550 brushed into the EP1 and that wasn't much better either. I never wanted to cut the skeg off the EP1 for bigger props, so I sold it. Funny, got more than I paid for it.

Argh the laughter...

dont laugh i thought the same thing
at the time i lived in the bush,no internet,no people around who ran boats. had 2 copies of rc boat modeller as inspiration lol
found the supreme f1 in the back of a hobby shop it had been there for that long the guy forgot he had it, got it for $50
i brought acouple of 540 10 turn motors and about 12 rotors of a guy getting out of racing, when i wanted a quick run i would drop one of these in the tunnel on 12 cells, matched IB 3600s (woohoo) used to get one run then had to redo the ametaure and add new brushess lol, good job i had a lathe and 12 rotors.
now thats some thing to laugh at

My first build was an Eco boat.

For some reasons I decided to reinforce the bottom with a layer of fibreglass.

This was also the first time I was fibre glassing. Made a big mess and the hull ended being 1kg heavier..... I also did used a metal water pipe coupler that weighs a ton between the motor and the motor stand as a spacer as the shaft was too long...... . When boat was not going forward it was sinking.....

That's a classic. Your making me laugh man. The hobby shop where you got the f1 sounds like me & my old mans days.
We used to go to Bergs Hobbies at Parra when they were on the main drag. 1970's/80's like. I saw a tunnel in the window and asked Dad if we could buy it? He had not much money those days, it was layby. He called me stupid and said there are no lakes or dams in our area. Yet, he and his mates ran Battleships and Cruisers At Parra lake? I was so young, but it must have left a MENTAL DENT in my brain for later.
I always like a laugh.

Peter

thanks Peter. Ordered one up. Here is box epoxied together with second coat with push rod sealers cut and another of push rods bent and ready to install once engine and servo mount come in. Waiting on motor to see how long connector wires are before I drill holes for esc to motor connection. Would love to have the 3 esc conectors come out of box in their own holes and sit 1/8 inch out or flush. Not sure if motor wires will reach until I get the bugger in. Will need to drill 2 more holes for the motor to ESC cooling tubes to go in and out. Cooling system configuration- From water pickup on motor plate to motor cooling gizmo, out 2nd nozzle on motor cooler gizmo motor, thru box into aft side of esc (ESC has 4 pickups instaled already), loop at front of esc going back into esc and then out back of box. Will likely do a brass tube exiting box with angle away from engine to avoid uneccessary spray to engine.

Looks good pooch. The servo arm is the perfect length....

Hey Pete

Were wearing baggy trousers and fluo shirt with a Michael Jackson fringe at that time?

I remember during those years baggy trousers and fluo shirt was the ultimate cool. Madonna would have just released "Like a Virgin" and Michael Jackson "Thriller" and "Beat It". And there was this ultra cool british group called "Bros" with metals parts on their shoes......

Mate I know the feeling as a kid of wanting something but not being able to get it because of money....... Now I'm back with vengeance with many cool toys......

Well, a little setback that worked for the better. Motor and servo mount still did not arrive yet, however . the cowling didn't go down all the way in rear as the box was bit to tall so had to cut it down about 1/8 inch and cut steering servo arm down on both sides in order to be able to flush mount the box cover. Also had redo steering rods for clearance for when I put the box cover on. Recycled some ball and socket joints from an old sailboat to put on the motor mount to connect to the steering rods and redo the angle on the steering rods . As it is in the following pics, we're ready to start the sealing of the cooling tubes and the steering rod sealers.... Balance point is perfect with GPS in it. Will velcro batts to sides of box side by side and when GPS not i boat, can move bats to change COG> old SV 27 motor used pics... can't wait to finish it and get a speed trial run.

JC,
Do you remember the cartoon Wacky races? I think with Dick Dastardly, Penolope Pitstop etc? Well, as a kid I had a buzz wagon shirt. Used to wear that with my beige stubbies with the pocket at the front. Jeez, the class. Nothing has changed that much, except now my t shirt says, 'I fear no Beer'.
Dad and I used to go to Hobby Shops when there were only 2 of them.
If this rain keeps up, I will be able to use the tunnels on the road out the front!!!

Hey Chip,
Yer, I had that prob too. Another tip if you like? I epoxied the bullet connectors right into the back of the boat then put silicone all around it. Just saved me buying more of those waterproof boots.
Lookin great, you must be itching now? Try to take along a camera or video for your run.

See ya
Peter

i was thinking the same thing regarding the bullet connectors if the wires from motor are long enough. Drilled the holes for the esc wires (connectors sit in them perfectly) and cooling hoses to go out and they are all snug fits. Will silicone inside and outside of the 5 holes and just use the boots for the push rods and have the bullet connectors extending just outside the rear box mount about 1/8"1/2" if the motor wires are long enough. ESC and rudder servo and receiver fit in back and ESC will be mounted to side of box via velcro and the receiver is in the furthest spot back on the floor behind the servo and velcroed down too (wikll but in baloon for extra safety measure but box will be very tight so may not even do that. The servo horn is 1/16" below the lid after cutting top down. Itching isn't the word. Dying is more like it. Once Ice melts and temps get above 40 degrees F, I'm on it!! Here's a few ore pics for you're viewing pleasure of box with tops and rudder servo setup with ball and socketsconnecting push rods to motor.......

hey chip looking good, my plan with the bullets is to join a male and female togethor back to back, then epoxy them in to the pass threw that way its easy to remove the esc.
extra bullets will add a very small amount of extra resistance but not enough to worry about.

Also, sometimes that ball cleavis will fail. If it does, use this type or the steel pin type and put a small piece of fuel tube over it.
My servo horn is also very close to the lid. Everything about a FE TS2 is tight. Remember it is a nitro boat and you are doing a masterful job of elec conversion.
Snow be gone eh? I see the east coast is coppin' a floggin' of snow on the speaking cyclops.

Off topic, I have put the dolphin outboard on a boat and spent no money at all. If anyone is keen for a laugh and wants to see pics, I will post some up.

Hey Scott,
In post 311 when you posted pics of your VS1. Does your VS1 come with the radio box up front and the rear section similar to the TS2 build? And you made the box in the middle? Is the radio box the same as TS2? Just curious as I have never seen a VS1 up close. Have you said you have driven it yet? Sorry for all the questions.

Thanks
Peter

hi peter, no i havent run it, still not finished.
iam not sure what a ts2 is like, in this pic you can see the diffrent colours in the wood, the front section is a sealed box,but i have cut the rear out to allow battry/wires to run threw.
the rear has 2 sides and a very thick back section were the lower leg mounts.
i have got a bit done the last few days will take some pics if it stops raining lol

Cool Scott, I think I got it now. Your going to make lids and all that now? Remember to put a small strip of ply/balsa just under the top inside of the boxes to make a lip. Coat with thinned epoxy or whatever. Lids will fit nice and snug then. Plus sticky tape after that. Looking good.

I have problems between VS1 and a little jet boat purchase?

okay here is some crappy shots
every thing is glued in place, just sealing the top bits of ply to the sides with epoxy
the bolts on the sides are to hold the servo mount/plate in and will be changed to s/s dome head bolts.i did this so it could be removed if need be.
