So, maybe I just didn't notice, or it's really supposed to be this way...but after running around for a while I notice that the motor and batteries are warm like normal, but the wires off of the battery connection are actually really pretty hot. Almost so that you don't want to touch or you may burn yourself. So I thought to myself, "Wow, that's hot. I wonder if there's an issue and they are going to melt through". Is this normal, and I just didn't notice? Or is this something that I may need to worry about and start digging to find out what's happening?

The wires get hot because they are carrying quite a bit of current. The thinner the wire for a given current, the hotter it will get. If you're using wiring that came with the equipment and are not running higher than safe voltages, you shouldn't be concerned. If you feel you are pumping more current through than the original spec intended, consider going with a lower AWG wire.

Or just upgrade the connectors. The standard tamiya ones have quite a bit of resistance, and the more you use them, the looser they get and the resistance goes up, causing more heat...I would just try better plugs first like deans or something along that line.
