I was wondering if anyone out there might have some background info on the tanks in these photos. I "believe" the first one (of Tank 32) was taken in Europe; the second was supposedly taken during the Rhine River Crossing, perhaps at/near Remagen?

Thanks!!

First one looks like a post-war Pershing in Germany.

According to the caption (in italics), the picture on the right is a WWII Pershing set to cross the Rhine.

The one on the left is definitely post-WWII given it's dual-pin tracks.

There were a few Zebra mission Pershings with T80E1 tracks. The real giveaway is the modified travel lock and phone box.

the photo on the right is one of lt Gimbal's tanks at the Ludendorf Bridge, Remagen 7-8 March 45. Bridge would not support the weight and tracks were too wide, so they ferried them across on rafts. Left one I believe is manevers in Germany 1948-49.

Thanks for the info...! I had a feeling that may have been the Ludendorff Bridge in the second photo....O think in my copy of "Death Traps" Belton Cooper mentions that the Bridge couldn't take the weight. But the photo caption simply refers to "crossing the Rhine"....

(If any of you guys are interested in WWII Pershings Online, try this link: Parabellum. Text is mostly Russian but Babelfish, etc should be able to handle most of the captions. LOTS of photos !

..And if you want to make your tank look really scary, there are some good shots of the "Super Pershing", which make even the Tiger II's barrel look kinda "short" )

Those photos are all out of Dick Hunnicutt's Pershing book. Super P is an interesting tank..I built one a few months ago and put Impact T-80E1 tracks on it. I have a DBU unit in it and it's a very good runner. Got lucky, had a spare 90mm gun off another Pershing I converted to M-45, so the double long 90 gun tube was just right. Cut the second tube right where the taper from the breech end straightens out and it just right.
