I got a few of those from him too, but he was never that rude to me. Just kept asking the same questions.

Have a blast at IRCHA. I don't get to any shows or constests any more. My flight scedule with the full scale keeps me in the air most of the time. Sure is a great job though.

Have fun.

I banned him for a 2nd time as instructions were given for him to follow on how to post here on RCU. I don't know if it is truly someone in need of help or a troll. The volume of posts and repeat questions was too out of control and he was irritating quite a few people here. He has plenty of other sites like ezone or whatever to frequent for electric heli help still

Nice move.

The offer is still open if you want mod help at any time. Just let me know when and if you need it. As you can tell, I spend a ton of time on here.

Mark, Flyboy, JA1010:

I think this issue with the NJperson was handled quite nicely by all. It is somewhat unfortunate that we cannot evaluate the personalities of members/visitors online. We REALLY don't know if that person was really a teen-ager, or a retired wheel-chair ridden R/C guy from the 50's when the R/C gear had tubes, but now has alzheimers, OR just someone trying to "rattle some cages"!!

It just took TOO long for most of us to realize that "who ever it was" began to irritate and frustrate us.

I suppose there will be occasional re-ocurrences of this sort of activity. There is probably no "correct" way to deal with a similar occurence except to refrain from responding to their posts at an appropriate time ... whatever that means!

Just my 2 cents worth,

Russ

Yea, it is a hard one to deal with sometimes. I felt bad a week ago telling him I didn't think he should fly RC. I really hate to do that because I know how bad he wanted to do it, but he just wouldn't listen to anything, and kept asking the same questions. He could have learned on anything, but he wouldn't take the innitiative to even call the numbers he was given, or talk to the people close to him offering help. He was sending me a ton of emails, and I am sure he did this to others. I wouldn't have a problem with that, but they were always the same questions. it got old after a couple months. I hope we didn't scare anyone off. This is a great hobby and I like to help people in it. I am sure by the rest of the posts the guys were doing they felt pretty much the same way. I think we tried to give him as many breaks as possible. I am sure it was just an overzelous kid that wanted more than he could afford, but he should at least read the answers to the posts when he asked a question.

And did I mention all the polls he put up?

I don't think you should feel bad at all. Not every activity is meant for every person. I don't know him personally, nor did I communicate with him outside this forum like you did, but his minimalist and repetitive responses to very good advice left me speechless (typeless?).

Judging by the posts only, this guy was either jerking our collective chains, or was someone who was excited but still very dependent and not able to make decisions. If the latter is true, I would not want to be anywhere near him when he flew, nor would any other person, animal or tree stump.

I have had the unpleasant duty of talking someone out of trying to get their pilot's license. I am a pilot myself, but the thought of this other person flying scared the $%^& out of me. Though you feel bad at the time, and so do they, you realize it is for the greater good.

rototiller, I had the same exp with a couple students when I had one of my flight schools before I started flying jets. One would just freek out, quit flying and have to look for his water bottle or a barf bag at times. He never got sick, but would just feel that way. He totally lost it one time and spun the plane. He would be dangerous on his own. The other wanted to learn because "pilots made a lot of money". I told him all the facts and that it takes many many years to get to where you make anything, and he bailed really fast. He thought it was an instant airline job thing. I have taught a lot to fly though. One is even flying F-15s now. That is really cool.

I know that wasn't RC related, just thought I would share it with you. Its all interesting.

You've got nothing to worry about. You already teach lots of newbies - you even provide the equipment. You can't help everybody

FLYBOY

Sounds like you've got the best of both worlds going - RC and full scale! One day I hope to get my instructors ticket and teach part time, but with aviation the way it is, no instructors are moving up and out to make room for new ones.

Yea, it is a tough game. I am really thankfull I have a job I like. Got away from a bad company just in time. This one rocks. yesterday I was doing aerial photography in a tight canyon in Wallace ID. My turns were 100 feet from the ridge to make room to get on line. Lots of fun. Just have to make sure the conditions are right. Was the 4th time I was there. The first 3 were too bad and we didn't want to be in a canyon and become part of it. It is a great time. The best days are the ones where you fly the big one for an hour or so, then the little ones for a while. Makes it all worth while.

Its fun. I flew into Teteboro a lot. Was actually there for 6 weeks, flying in and out every day. It is a hard airport to find at night if you are coming in visual. Lots of other lights. Fun to fly out of there. You never know what they are going to throw at you.

You would have liked doing an intro with me. I let the student take off, fly and land on their first flight. I explain it well first and then back them up as needed. Never had any dislike it and they all wanted to learn afterwards. It is harder to make someone enjoy the flight than to make them afraid of it. I like the challenge of having them like it.

So did you ever get the eco 8 and how did you like it? I'd like to know what your experiences were why learning to hover and fly it. How long did it (seriously) take you to learn to hover.
The reason i ask is because i'm looking to get a piccolo fun or hummingbird as my first heli. I know alot of guys on here dont like the idea of a newbie running a micro heli but i'd rather crash a somewhat cheap heli two or three times learning to fly rather than crash a $1200+ nitro heli once. Besides that its really a matter of me being too lazy to play with nitros anymore. I've had nitro r/c cars/trucks and getting those motors to run right gets old over time. (thats why i've gone with a gasoline powered r/c car).
Thanks in advance
Mike

In its stock form, crashing the Eco could easily cost you as much if not more than crashing a nitro. If you are serious about getting into helis I would recommend the Corona. If you want something smaller then go with the Hummingbird. The HB is really hard to hover and fly but is cheap, durable and easy to fix. The same can be said for the Corona, although it can not be flown around inside and is easier to fly.
