With a 1.5mm hex driver?? Not sure I get the question correctly, you mean the grub screw in the coupling?

Yes that was exactly what I was after, I couldn't work out if it needed a hex driver or something else. thanks!

EDIT: The only issue left now is the servo arm pops off after a few minutes, this is my first hobbygrade rc venture, so if there is some way of securing the arm other than just putting it on please inform me

The servo arm or 'horn' is secured to the servo with a semi-pointed, short screw.

alright, been an eventful weekend for the tear into...
Yesterday I brought it up the beach, I even brought the charger and ran that off the car battery (worked a treat)
We went up with a couple of mates, and I now have a jet boat mate in the making

(Just gotta order a new kit... thinking of making an Outrunner on 2S for him)

After many batteries through the boat, it was sucking in water through the jet drive and it sounded horrible because the drive shaft was vibrating... In the end, I could only JUST get the boat up on plane, there was that much water/vibration happening

I have to say, I think salt water is abrassive... compared to running in fresh water, the wear and tear is noticable

Today I decided to pull the boat down and give it a good once over, new glue, grease every moving part and most importantly, do the sleeve mod!
The sleve mod came out really good I reckon, I should have done that from the get go... The plastic was ground away, so much so, that I could nearly put the 1/8th inch rod in without driiling!!
I've got pics of all of this, but need to get them off my camera, I'll post once I've sorted that out

So, right now, I'm charging my batteries, to take the boat out for a test run. The boat is curing in the sun at the moment

I should have done that sleeve mod ages ago!!

The jet drive primes instantly, I can go full pelt across waves, and by the time it hits the top of the next wave, it's primed and pushing through the air to the next wave...

I also took the chance to reconfigure my ESC, which had a cut-off at 6V!! No wonder my batteries were feeling a bit rough...

I also adjusted the punch level down by 20%, and I think that combined with the jet drive mod, is what gives me prime so quickly...

I think sleeving the drive is the only way to go, well for me anyways... The first 3 boats that i had were terrible from factory, either bent shafts or poor alignment. So by the second i ditched stock drive shafts too and never looked back. Plus its part of the fun.

I will have all winter to mod my boat. Never got to maiden it do to renovating my master bath this summer myself. Took all summer but I'm very happy with the results.
So.... I really want to take your advice and do the sleeve mod but I don't know where to begin. I would love to see your pics and suggestions so I understand it fully.
I will take my time and do it right this winter and be ready for some rapid fun next spring.

Too easy, I hope the pics make sense

This is what I used: about 20mm of 1/8th inch copper tube & Tarzan Grip Glue (shoe glue or whatever works just fine... this is what I had)

Pull the drive out of the boat, and take it apart
Where the drive shaft goes through the jet drive, use a 1/8th inch drill to drill a new hole
Slide the copper tube through
glue it in place (I only placed glue on the water side of the jet drive... see pic if that didn't make sense, I only glued once)
let it dry
add marine grease and your rubber seal
assemble the drive
then all is done

The other thing to check regularly, is the prop... I've run my boat on large sand flats on the out going tides (= wicked currents and sand mounts to jump off

)
The prop is definitely the weaker link, and the blades get steadilly shortened, creating a gap between the tip of the blade and the wall of the jet pump... not ideal at all!!

New prop, New drive shaft and sleeved jet drive = no water in the boat and better than factory speed/takeoff!

I added a pic from my beach trip too

SkR8Pn: Could you please let me know what you have replaced the driveshaft with? And how you got the prop to keep put??

Don't really have a set rule on driveshafts, Either what i have laying about or can machine to fit... Between the length of the driveshaft and the coupler i make, hold the impeller in place. Hope that helps

finally received the replacement Leopard 4450 kv motor and tested it out.
there is smoke and burnt mark spotted on one of the motor cables initially, stopped for a while and continued play with no adnormality, total play time ~ 8 mins.

setup : Turnigy 60A ESC + Leopard 2040 series 4450kv Motor + 2S 4000mah 40~80C Lipo + Cooling tubes

so the Outrunner 4400 kv motor will be much faster than Leopard 4450kv motor although their top rpm are almost the same?

I suppose Outrunner motor do not need any water cooling jacket?

That particular outrunner is much more powerful than the 2040 size Leopard. And because it is not pushed that hard, does not build up as much heat. But if you are concerned about heat, you can do what Damfurst did (see previous post) and make a cooled mount (Good job, Danfurst!)

Those are nice looking couplers with the three setscrews on each end. Should be able to balance those easily! What would you have to get for one (shipped in the states)?

Try it and see! It is a stronger motor at 600watts vs 220 for the Leopard. Sure sounds like you got a bad batch of motors.

We all get busy from time to time, I've been meaning to re-solder 1 bullet connector, 2 weeks later, nothing has been done about the bullet connector... LOL

Hey guys,

I've started gathering a list of things I need for my next tear into. I've stumbled across a new motor that I think would work wonders as a high powered Tear Into on 3S

The motor has an additional 160 watts of power compared to my current NQD (760 in total) and a better KV rating in my mind, should be fun

tried posting this a couple of times, so now it's just going to be a teaser

do kindly correct me if my understanding is incorrect for the following...

suggested motor kv for each types of Lipo.

2S : 3900~4450 kv Inrunner/Outrunner Motor

3S : 2900~3600 kv Inrunner/Outrunner Motor

4S : 2600~ kv Inrunner/Outrunner Motor

2S*3900 kv = 7.4*3900 = 28860 rpm

3S*3900 kv = 11.1*3900 = 43290 rpm (is it too high rpm to cause motor overheat rapidly)

what is the ideal rpm range for motor?

comparing Inrunner 4400kv vs Outrunner 4400kv motor, Outrunner will have more torque?
what is the criteria to choose between Inrunner and Outrunner motor?

Hey guys,

First, thanks to SkR8Pn for sending me a pm.

I have had a lot of electric boats and I have done many mods successfully, but this jet boat is very alien to me. I reallly need to ask some questions.

I'm not sure what I really need to do. I mean, what mods does this boat really need to run decent without water coming into it.

1. What is the bearing mod for and where does the bearing go? I know the bearing has less resistance and will help the electronics run cooler, but does it also help keep the water out?
2. What is the sleeve mod and what is it for?
3. What's wrong with the stock shaft?
4. What is wrong with the stock coupler?

Hi everybody

Yesterday I ordered a NQD jet pump at Ebay and planning on putting it in a crackerbox.
I dont know if the hull is right for it nor do I know what length this hull shouldt be. I will build this cracker from scratch, so I can adjust the size of the building plans if needed. I know that the hull of the jet sprint/Tear into is about 44cm in length. I'm planning on using a watercooled 3200KV on 3s.
Now I have a few small question:

1. Can I build a cracker that's about 50cm in length max and use it with that setup ?
2. Can anybody tel me the exact diameter of the rim(?) of the nozzle ? Not the rudder nozzle but the part were the screws go in.
3. the exact height of the jet, without the bottompart. Basicly the red and green lines

That way I can determin the minimum height of the transom thus the scale of the cracker.

I hope I have made myself understandable for you guys
