Mac Hodges of Hodges Hobby apparently crashed his famous B-29 (with a 20' wingspan!) 2 weeks ago at a show in Kentucy . It was PERFECTLY built and painted with all the trimmings of a "real" B-29 - he even launches a Bell X1 (Yager's plane that 1st broke the sound barrier) from the belly of the plane. It was BEYOND AWESOME!!!!

I don't have any details about the crash, but if anyone does, please let me know. The plane is actually in last month's Airplane News in their Scale Warbirds article. The Hodge's B-29 was a real "legend" of the sport and it was HUGE. This thing has a wingspan that is over almost 4 feet LONGER than my Cadillac deville!!! It was all hand made with 4 engines to power this 98lb beast.

If ANYONE has any info or pictures of WHAT HAPPENED, PLEASE let me know. I HATE to see such huge handcrafted beauties crash.... It's a crying shame b/c the plane was so remarkable and detailed. Even worse, the guy who designed it and built it died of long term cancer only a week before it crashed... I guess that makes it doubly sad that it crashed....

I'm including the only picture I could find of it; it's a bit small, but with Mac standing behind it, you can quickly get the idea that this was one GIGANTIC airplane!!!!

Like I said, post ANY pictures that you might have of what was "left of it" and if someone could explain HOW it happened it would be great.

Peace, Love, and Flying!

Check here . Pics, video, theory, and truth. Also found a few stills from another site that were a great series of telephoto shots prove the wing separated. Here they are.

Very sad to see such a big model die. He really did fly the bejezus our of here though!

Kind of reminds me of Gordon Nichols B52 that crashed a few years back. I helped pick the pieces of her up

just seen the video too. its sickening to think that a rare exampe like that crash due to some wing bolts not being fitted. if that was my aircraft then id be very upset. though watching the stunts he did with it was amazing and never have i seen such a large bird like that do tricks like that. hope he builds another as good as that
