Anyone here ever built a flying version of the US Ascender or Japanese Kyushu J7W1 Shinden? (Both are canard -type fighters developed at the end of WWII).

Art Johnson designed a scale J7W1 (.60 size) several years ago for Model Builder magazine (I believe). He had a terrible time getting it to fly, and it never fly very well for him. I think Bill Northrop Plan Service still has the plan. I saw a photo of a scaled up version from this plan (80+" that a fellow in south Georgia built, and it apparently flew much better than the smaller original model.
Jack Bale had a 1/12 plan of the XP-55 for electric operation. It is no longer available, due to Jack's death.
The surviving XP-55 is currently undergoing restoration at the Kalamazoo Aviation Museum. Not sure what NASM did with their Shinden. Both had been packed away in the Garber facility in DC, and are projected to go on display (eventually) in the new NASM building near Dulles airport.
