Very nice, The black boat is the same one I have, but with twin props, but not as advanced. I still have to put on the water pick up on it.
And the ss dauntless is awesome.

Rich & All Captains:

Below is some images of a home made muffler for a John Deere 25cc. Homelite Engine. I had a extra canister type muffler from a weed wacker, but I wanted to experiment with the following materials.
Brass-Copper-Cast Iron,-Solder-Brake Compression Fittings, Water Lines, shower Head Pipe, Brass from Hobby Shop, Flange Nut.

First I went onto several sites to look at cut-away muffler images, the best site for such, was from flowmaster. There # 40 exhaust muffler was the best for my needs, for quieting, performance, and sound.
In the center of the muffler is three v shaped defusers, with a straight exit plate, with one hole, I drilled three. The entrance plate has one hole, I drilled three, with 42 degree bend on each side of the hole.
I then soldered the whole thing together, with two copper water pipes from the entrance. The exit will have the same, to attach to compression fittings, for easy removal.
I made the exhaust manifold from a original short manifold from the engine. I needed to add length, so I used a brass shower head pipe, with chrome plating. I soldered a flange nut to the cast iron exhaust manifold. Then I screwed in the shower head pipe, and cut proper length, and soldered a end cap of brass, and two compression fittings, from a truck brake line.

The whole process took about me a week to do. The hardest part, was finding the right parts, and alot of trial and error days. The sound is really awesome, for it sounds very deep throat, but yet with out the dreaded drone noise. It was worth the time of punishment to my hands, many times sweeping the floor, and the possible cuts, that I did not receive. And the whole system can come apart for working on the engine, and removal when needed.

Butch-It was great fun

Hi Butch,

It is cool that you are making progress on your build. You are doing an awesome job on your exhaust. Flowmaster is a really good muffler stytem to model. Your boat is going to sound great, as well as be efficient!

Recently, I have been busy with a few other things, therefore i have not had much time to dedicate to Dauntless. Hopefully soon some work will be done & pictures will be posted.

I ran the new V24 boat on a nearby pond a few times. The boat runs like a champ, but am already experiencing problems with the lipo battery.

I hope to see more of your progress soon.

Great job!!

-Rich.

The boat originally was 39"x12"x10", It is now 40" long, 14" high, and 14" wide.
The engine is a John Deere Homelite 25cc snowblower engine, with 1/4" flex drive, going into a stainless bearing stuffing box.
I have built a flowmaster dual pipe exhaust system for it. Made from brass, and other parts from water plumbing. It will have a double cabin on it, instead of the typical flat deck.
The prop I will be using, has been made for me from stainless steel, balance and sharpened. It is a three inch, with a un-disclosed experimental pitch. Designed to give the boat alot of torque, and speed.

I'am designing a special cooling radiator for the engine head, so when the water comes in, it will be really cool. Plus two fans to draw air in and out.

Rich & All Captains;

For the past few weeks, I have been designing a very efficient cooling system for my large scale boat, that does house a 25cc. John Deere Homelite Engine. It does have 1.5 horsepower, but will be more once I completely port the engine.

Anyways, I spent the last few days gathering brass stock materials, and a oil port from a furnace motor for oiling, with a snap close lid and built in vent.
The size of my cooling radiator is 3 1/8 x 3 1/4 x 1/4 inch.
I purchase two 10/32 nipples for inlet, and outlet of the water flow.
There is three 3/16" brass tubing for the cooling, and where they go inside the top and bottom tanks. they go all the way in, with a 48 degree angle ground off the tube to allow the coolant to flow freely.
There is six cooling fins soldered to each tube, and the case sides. The top and bottom tanks, is from 1/4 inch square brass stock.
The 3" x 3" cooling fan is from my old computer, with ball bearings, and it takes 12volts to operate. But with the electric transistor voltage jumper, I will be able to use 7.2 batteries, and comes out of the jumper at 12.2 volts. And with my secret recharger, it will be fine.
I ran the mock up on my work bench, and normal operating temps and mid-RPM's, it was 98 degrees. But with the radiator, and the water pump attached, it ran 82 degrees. Both tests was done with water, and the next test was done with 50%-50% percent water and antifreeze. This time it brought it done to 79.8 degrees. But then I purchased a special cooling fluid they use in computers, to cool inside pc temps.
This time it ran a hard test of constant reving, and the temps never got past 77.2 degrees, It was worth the cut fingers, and the the long 10 hours of prep, sanding soldering.
Also, I did a pressure test with a regular car tester, and it held a constant 22 lbs of pressure.
PS. The cooling fluid is non-conductive!

Also Friends, with the with the fill entry, I shaved a little off one side, so it will vent, and release any hot gases at 14lbs of pressure, so it does not load to high.
Enjoy-Butch

Friends

I have been working on the engine location, and the engine mounts the last few days.
Some ask me why I am doing this part of the project, and not putting on the hull sides. it's simple.
I will not have been to align the holes for the engine, and determine extra hull hull supports for the engine mount.
Much more later-Butch

Rich & Friends

I just finshed build the air inlet for the radiator, and cooling fan. And the way I positioned it, it will also blow cool ait across the engine fins. I have a location for the exhausting the hot air in the hull. it will be located just aft, and on port and starboard side of the cabin. It will exit out the end of the window locations. Also by the radiator, is the engine location, I still have more to do id strengthing the hull my way.

The brass tubes in the stern, by the deck on both the port and starboard side, is the exhaust tail pipes.
There will be a 45 degree elbow, with the outer angle shaved smooth, so there will not be a corner, for the gases will exit without restriction.

All Captains

I just finished putting on the shaved 45 degree angle to the twin exhaust tail pipes, where the muffler will connect. Also, I did some more shaving on the engine room, and will fit the 25cc engine into it.
Why I decided to use the 25cc, instead of the 21cc engine, is the smaller had no clutch, and did not have any support on the other end of the engine to allow such. You would think, Craftsman would have such, for there products. There was the crankshaft connecting to the flex drive, and the other end to the piston, and not exiting out the rear, just a plastic end to keep the oil in from running-EL, Cheapo.
Another reason RICH404, WILL BE PM TO YOU, AND YOU ALONE!

i also am very happy to see that you were able to use the exhaust coupler that i supplied with the motor.since i talked to you last i dug up another john deer home-lite,this is well used and on a crackerbox that i used to run 10 years ago.send me your address and i will send you this motor for the cost of shipping,i don't have a need for it ,as i now don't run the home lite motors any more.

as i look at the last set of pictures, i noticed that the stringer marked #82 might be a problem if you need to remove the drive-line.is that a temporary piece of plywood or a structural support for the decking?
great looking boat.

It is just a temp piece, I was going to put something there, and changed my mind. I just have not removed it yet, for I was getting into the hull section.

Butch,i can not find your shipping info. The last email you sent only had the phone #.send me your address so i can send the rudder and drive assembly.also sending a 275 aluminum prop along with the drive strut,The drive is an octura skeged style.that will make your build handle the turns without a turn fin.the bottom of your boat don't have any strakes,it will tend to slide in a turn the skegged strut will really help to hold the transom from spinning out.you shouldn't need a turn fin with this style.the prop is warehouse hobbies 275,i sharpened it and balanced it also.

The strakes are going to be put on the hull today, I have not put them on when I got the bottom hull on. I was happy as heck, that it turned out so good, that I decided to let it set up real good before the next step.
I learned a long time ago, do not mess with something when it is right. Give a few days of epoxy drying, then go forward. After all, I only started on this project on August 16, 2008, and I do not want to be fast.
When I do work on the boat, generally I will put in a ten hour days on it, and trust me when I say, I have many.
To date, I have 180 hours into it
When it is done, I will have alot of it painted white on the hull, but top side will have a lot of wood grain sealed in marine spar. For I love wood grain!!!

Hi Butch,

It is looking good!

By the time you are done, you will have a few hundred more hours put into it. These boats are time consuming but well worth the effort.
