Here is what you have been waiting for!

I first started the DUMAS DEEP V60, two months ago. I had bought it in 2006, and put it in my basement to do later.
Why it took me so long to start the project, I only had the general blueprint, that came with the boat. I still do not have the instruction booklet, that should have came with it.

To date, I got most of the ribbing done, and some the bow deck on. But I talked to you Rich, and decided to do as it came to me. I have added a secondary cabin, over the original bay, and electric room.

The upper command center, the bridge will be able to be removed for easy access for engine, and electronics.

I have applied some mahogany plywood to vital areas, like ribbing, and secondary cabin.

The secondary cabin is made from scraps of wood, that I pulled the original parts from, for chines.

As you see, I use the kitchen table, for it has a 1/4 plate glass top. Before each day of working, I clean the top, and spray it with spray lubricate, to keep the glue fron sticking to it,

The upper part of the secondary cabin, has roof joists, more will be added friday to give the ceiling something to glue to.

The bridge will have the floor built up from there, and i am going to use your idea of strong magnets to hold it down, for access.

The front part of the secondary cabin is going to extend further to the bow. Right now, I am doing as I go along. This boat is going to be different then any boat you, or anybody has ever seen. It is time for fresh boat blood to be issued, and yours, and mine is the key!

Butch,

I like the lines on your boat, the hull looks like it has the potential to really fly! What are your thoughts on powering it? Also, it looks to be pretty big, how long is it?

The table you are using is really nice. I can see the quality in it. The original table i used to build my Dauntless ended up in the garbage....now that i am working on her again, my wife gave me a big brand new well built rubbermaid table that i promised to keep clean..(so we can also use it outside for BBQ's & such when we have parties) I have really tried to keep it clean, but now it looks like someone dumped epoxy and sawdust all over it and threw it off of a speeding train.. oh well....

I hope you have better luck with your table!

THANKS RICH, THERE IS A LOT OF TIME IN THIS BOAT. FOR STARTERS, I ADDED LENGTH FROM 39 INCHES TO 44 INCHES-WIDTH FROM 12 INCHES TO 14 1/2 INCHES, AND THE HEIGHT FROM 7 INCHES TO 12 INCHES.
AS FOR THE POWER, I HAVE NOT DECIDED ON IT. BUT I DO HAVE A COUPLE OF IDEAS FOR IT, LIKE TURNING IT INTO TWIN SCREWS, OR TWIN ENGINES, EITHER IN-LINE, OR SIDE BY SIDE COUPLED TO A VARIABLE POWER OUTPUT.
I WILL HAVE WATER COOLING FOR THE FIRST, BUT WILL ALSO HAVE DRAWING FANS ON THE OUTPUT SHAFT, THAT WILL DRAW AIR THROUGH A ROUND HOUSING JUST BEFORE THE ENGINE, OR ENGINES, FROM OUTSIDE.
SOME SAY, WITH ALL THE WORK I AM PUTTING INTO IT, USE IT FOR DISPLAY ONLY. I SAY WHY GO THIS ROUTE, GO WITH A PLASTIC MODEL THEN. NOT ME, IT WILL CRUISE IN THE WATER, AND WATCH ME GRIN.
SCROLL DOWN TO NEXT, SENT SOME MORE PICTURES-BUTCH

Butch,

Wow..I like your ideas, they sound very cool.

I agree, the boat will be on display 90% of the time anyway, why not sail it a little too...

Hi Butch,

You have been working on this boat for a short amount of time and it is already starting to take shape! Well done! This boat will be fine quality upon completion!

That is a good idea, i will enter the contest. I need a knock around replacement boat to hold me over until my build is done. I had another boat that i was using a year ago, but it got away & sank...It is now a refuge for small fish somewhere in the Long Island Sound...shame.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH, AND I CAN SAY THE SAME ABOUT YOUR BOAT AS WELL. MOST ARE JUST IN A RUSH TO SLAP THEM TOGETHER, AND RUN THEM WITH NO DISREGARD TO THE FACT OF DETAIL.
I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF BOATS, AND THAT WOULD OUT SPEED ANYTHING ON THE WATER AND LOOKED LIKE I WOULD NOT BE PROUD TO TAKE A PICTURE WITH IT.
TO ME IT SEEMS, THEY SHOULD JUST BUY A RTR AND RUN IT OR NOT.
I AM PROUD TO HAVE A FRIEND THAT SPEAKS HIS MINE-BUTCH

Still deciding on what power plants to use, electric or gas, it is a question I need to value at all aspects of run time, speed, low end torque, expense, and etc.

Some input from your end would help on both our thoughts-Butch

Hi Butch,

There are many pros and cons on that topic that has become the age old question of RC. It is really up to you to weigh out the options and decide which set up is right for you. Once you decide “Gas or Electric,” then a whole bunch of other “things” come into play.

Hi Butch,

Something to keep in mind though, I am not sure where you will be sailing the boat, but it is good idea to check your local laws on sailing with gas. In NY, i am not sure where else, but i cannot use a gas RC boats on any pond or lake that restricts the use of full sized boats, jet ski's etc that run on gas.

I came across a hardly used electric speed boat, with a 540 mabuchi motor-speed control-battery pack-complete transmiter kit-servos-drive, and etc. I only paid $12.00 for the whole deal, from a friend of mine. I just had a testing idea, use two motors, two drives, and props. But instead of side by side coming out the back, have them at the same angle. And have one in front of the other something like this //.
Use two 540, something in the 700 size in electric, and use about two packs per motor, and one for the other electronics.?

Sunday I will show pictures of a slight twist I was talking about, that I started to do today!

Butch,

Sound like a good deal on the speedboat.

I am not sure if i completely follow on your idea. If you mean have the entire unit in line, wouldn't that make your drive train really long? considering props, shafts, couplings & motors. Also, the props would be far apart considering all things. Steering would become an issue amongst other things. I'm not sure if it would work out to your liking on launch day.

Originally, you said that you wanted to to make a replica of your boyhood boat. Why not do that. Search the internet for that 44' ChrisCraft or one like it, and use it as inspiration to incorporate into your build. Also get ideas on other peoples build to see where rudders, props, etc should be located. I like to use full sized boats for inspiration. One of the many sites I use is http://yachtworld.com This will help keep you on the right path of authenticity. just type in the type of boat, ChrisCraft, etc and a year range. There are always plenty of Chris's there.

Your boat is 44" and the original was 44', so that would make it 1/12 scale. (or 1" on your boat = 1' on the original craft) There are many cool things available on that scale for detailing.

Hope this helps.

-R.

Your right, about the prop set up, so will stick to basic's. Had to go out today, to get away from the project, and went to the Detroit boat club, and refreshed my brain waves.

But I do have a slight twist to the build of the boat. I have started on it last night, and found a bunch of new ideas when I went to the hobby shop today.

Will show you when I am done with this little section, and I believe you will like it. For it will flow with the lines of the boat.

And I put on hand rails, or some guide rails, that are made out of brass. I will polish them up, and then clear coat them.

Here is the new twist to one of my ideas I been hiding.
The pictures below will show where the extra wood material should have been sawed off for the deck board to lay flat. Instead, you can see the four extra ribbing I have added.
It is for the dual copper pipe exhaust for the John Deer Homelite 26 cc engine I will have shortly. It is a pull start, and does recommend a prop by Prather 280s 3.10 dia. and 4.05 pitch.
I wished it was a three or a four blade prop, for the engine can take the big ones.
Please recommend a prop that will give me low end gut wrenching push my boat, and spring off speed.

Hey Butch,

Here are some popular sites that sell 3 blade props. See if you can find the suggested props in 3 blade within these websites. These sites also have everything you need to get your boat up & running along with misc items such as lighting, fittings etc.

Yes I agree, I got some brass and started to make the perimeter rails for the deck.
And I have designed a dual outlet for the exhaust system I will make my self from copper pipe.
I also making a good water cooling system fro the engine, and decided to go with a dual prop setup, that i seen from one of your sites.
I will be taking inventory for a storage company saturday, and I will be next to a large marina. And I plan to take a few pictures for scale comparison, and taking measurements.

Here is three pictures of the engine I plan to put into the boat.
It has a pull start, and a clutch, so I won't have to launch it. It is a 25cc, 1.5 hp marine engine. It is brand new, and I bought it from the rcu classified section of this forum for a total of engine, and shipping for $52.00.
I will be doing a how to do on exhaust mufflers, for this homelite engine, by John Deere.
I will be building my own exhaust muffler, and pipes for such.
It will be posted on this site, as well as the engine mount.

With this type of engine, I will be using a fan for air in, and a exhaust fan, for air out.

Rich, what type of fan are you going to use. I was thinking of using a high grade computer fans. Any remarks on this subject?

Hi Butch,

The engine looks good!! 1.5 HP should make your boat fly.....

I ordered 2 12V computer fans for my yacht. I bought the 12VDC 45MM Cooling Fans (Comair Rotron): http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/category/220/Fans/1.html I liked it because it is small, light and does not take up much space. I didn't try it so i'm still not sure how powerful it is. Something I kept in mind when i was looking for fans was I did not want it to be too big because i don't want it to drain my batteries. I will probably put an on/off switch on it, so i don't have to use it all the time.
