Don;

I just hope that they can put some decent wood in those short kits. I am making mine work now, but I can't believe how soft and spongy most of this is, especially the tail feathers!!

I am glad the short kits are coming back, and for that I thank-you!!

There was a version sold many years ago with a fiber glass fuse and foam core wing. I bought one at the Byrons show in Iowa after a demo of it flying. It ended up on the kit pile of projects to get to. More kits got put in front of it and I never got around to building it. It might be a nice winter project for me. Does anyone have any experience with this version?

Thanks,
Pete

Only the foam core wing, never had a fiberglass fuse with my old kit.

All I know is that on the .40 size Flying Machine, the cowl setup on this plane is already tight for a .40 size engine. I can't imagine you could pack that .60 gasser in there. I know, I have been wondering what I can put one of those in myself, but I don't think it would fit in the .40 size airframe.

Looking mighty fine Dave.

I received the 60 size plans yesterday. Just got off work and un rolled them on the dinning room table. One sheet entirely of buildable plans. Decisions decisions, still haven't made up my mind which to build. I'm leaning toward the 40 size cause I can just put it assembled in the back of the car for a grab and go plane.

What is the wingspan of the .60 size? I know the .40 is a nice small package. I just filled the fuse and the wings, I will plan on doing the final sanding tomorrow and maybe start covering. I am thinking orange/purple/white...not sure. I know the original is black, but they only look good on the ground, in the air I need to see it!

Dave,
The print wing span measures 52 3/4". The fuse measures 45 1/2" from the rear of the rudder to the motor hub.

Got an email from Lazer-Works. The 40 size Flying machines short kits are ready. $67.00 each plus shipping. I'm ordering one ASAP.
I'm going to try and have it built by spring. Life has been a little hectic at work lately and spring is really busy for creating environmental reports for Uncle Sam. So we will see how my plans work out. RC is always taking 2nd or 3rd place.

FYI, I e-mailed Eddie at lazer works and told him that the materials for the ribs and fin/stab were too soft in my kit and he said he will try to do better. Hopefully he can remedy that issue, other than that the kit was fine. I will say though, I found it easier to sheet some areas (such as the cowl/turtledeck areas) with a larger sheet and sand it down to get the bevels right, so I ended up using some sheeting for a couple of those parts instead of the pre-cut pieces, just so I could get it oversized..........

Well work has been crazy, Eddie from Lazer-Works emailed me a reminder and I have two short kits ordered. A Jensen Ugly Stick and the Flying Machine. I saved a some with shipping by ordering both at once.

I am looking to do the same with the .60 size and order one of each, the .40 and the .60 to save on shiping - Any idea if the .60 sized is ready cut as well?

I just decided to replace my 60 size Stick with the Jensen short kit. I have enough spare motors laying around to build both. I'm just a Sunday flyer so the Flying Machine's capabilities are way over what my capabilities are. I figure it will be a great grab and go plane. I'll power it with a TT .46 and a LiFe battery pack. I need for the short kit to get here so I can make out a balsa list of sticks and sheeting.
