Springer,

Yes, I bought it used, it's the one pictured in post 348. Just got it home this week. I have a few things I want to change, mostly cosmetic. I'll be going over the plane thoroughly over the winter to ensure airworthiness then mounting what I deceided to use, a DA 85. I want this plane to have plenty of power and speed.

First thing I want to do is add the moving cowl flaps like Sam did. I plan to hook mine to the throttle channel. Low throttle = open flaps, high throttle = closed.

Also want to add the switch/chrage/fuel/air service tray that Sam did. Clean up the outside of the palena dn those switches, fittings etc.

Thanks,

Todd

I put an da85 in it. There is about 4 lbs on the nose. After I get a few flights on it I think I will end up with about 3 1/2 on it. I'm sure it's in this thread but I was wondering how much others were putting in the nose?

Here is another trick i got from Evan. I cut out the former so i could move the cockpit forward and then installed a ply switch plate.

Does anyone know how I can print out this with the pictures; Sam did an excellent job on documenting the build and I would like to have it with me when I do my build.

I'm not sure that you want to as there are 840 pictures that I posted: that would eat up a lot of paper and ink. Seems like it would be best to just take notes along with post # for reference and pull them up on the web for the part of the build that you are doing at that time.
You could contact the 'web meister' and ask them for details on maybe being able to get a copy of just the print.

Thanks Sam,
Good points, I know I can print it out in just text format; the ideal situation would be if I could download onto a disc; that way I can upload it onto the computer in the shop for reference and not have to get online to find what I need.

P-47 PM for the new season.

Last year, and after 140 flights over three seasons, the gear was real sluggish on the re-cycles and I had to cycle them, sometimes, several times to get them to function. Three weeks ago, I took the air cylinders off and cleaned, re-greased and replaced the O rings from robarts 'air system service kit'. It was pretty easy as the air cylinders could be removed from the gear without having to take apart the gear frame. Only the two C clips and pins were removed to get the cylinder out. Fortunately, one end of the cylinder screws off. The kit instructions say not to use pliers but I needed them to remove the end cap: it doesn't need a lot of pressure to remove but I used the pliers versus taking a chance of, accidentally, pushing on the brass air nipple and bending it, especially on putting the cap back on the cylinder. There was black junk in the cylinder, probably due to the O rings wearing. After re-assembly, they now work great.

Last Sunday, about 200' after take off, the engine went idle for about a second, and I immediately landing after that circuit. The battery was just charged that morning but the voltmeter read half way between green and red so I replaced the battery. Hopefully, that was the problem.
I checked the clunk, which was good and also replaced the spark plug. The choke/throttle servos are also functioning OK as, last year, the choke servo 'went south' me.

Has anyone put a carbon fiber wing tube in this plane? It will save about 12 ounces behind the CG. could translate into 1lb total with less weight in the nose. Size is 32 mm, think I'll check them out in Toledo next week.

OK, I think mine is ready to fly, maiden may be next weekend depending on weather. Going to try to post some photos and a video of the gear and cowl flaps operating.
Ended up with a 3W80 engine
dummy radial (left the two bottom two cylinders off for air flow for now).
Hi Tech 5645 MG servos on all but choke and throttle.
used the HiTech servo programmer to slow down the flaps, very scale now.
Futaba RX 14 channel
2 A123 2300 MAH batts for RX running through a Electro dynamics batt share system using two separate switches mounted near the firewall
one A123 with MPI regulator for the ign.
Lots of trial and error to get the the tail gear doors to work, thanks to Sam and this thread for the help with that
removed the needles from the retract valves, no need to slow the gear down.
26X10 Xoar for initial flights, got a 24X12 Mejlik 3 blade CF for later
A lot of work to finish the cowl, had two big holes in it from the previous owner and DA 100 installed, turned out well.

Interesting part is that with all the equipment installed, gear up, no fuel it balances at about 1 inch behind the Nav light lens with no weight in the nose, makes me a little nervous with everyone adding 2, 3 and 4 lbs lead to their birds and I need nothing. I know I read it several times in the thread but if someone could confirm the location for the CG I'd appreciate it. Hate a tail heavy aircraft for the first flight.

With that I just kept the Aluminum wing tube.

Here's a few photos and a video if I can get it to work. Well I tried, sorry there seems to be a server error.
