I was one of the very lucky ones to get an Alpha-4 during the order period in December. I have had it for about a month and can say that it is worth every cent I paid for it. I have used other chargers for less than half the price, but they don't come close to the features of the Alpha 4.

I normally charge three aircraft batteries and my Transmitter battery at the same time. I have the options to charge each one on a separate charging options if I want. It is nice to have all my planes ready to go at all times.

It is so easy to use it is unbelievable and has so many different battery charging/discharging/trickle options that I probably will never use all of them. It won't do Lithium Ion batteries, but I would never use them in RC applications anyway. It will do NiMH on several of its programmed cycles, but, I have also never seen the need for those types of batteries when high capacity NiCads are available and last so long anyway.

I like the feature of being able to charge my lead-acid gel that I use in my field box with it too. I don't use it as a field charger, but it can do that as well.

On most of the charging options the most I have to put in is the number of cells and the capacity rating and the charger takes care of the rest. In some cycles, I don't even have to do any of that.

I know these are hard to get so please don't reply to this thread discussing that topic, or the business practices of Litco. That has been debated many times on this forum!

I just wanted to give you all some feedback on a great charger.

Terry

Then you simply buy something that better suites your needs. Do your homework son. The Alpha 4 fills the needs of those that fly bigger toys with gas, and glow engines. It remains unsurpassed for this.

You are allowed opinion but i think that you need to maintain humbleness in your opinions and arguments. After all everybody in this hobby means well and it's a bunch of nice people.

I don't disagree with you. I just look at your profile and i understand why you are upset about it. Let's try to keep it nice and respectful.

Let's get back on track.
I agree with the Alpha's usefullness.....it simply cannot be beat.
The 1 amp total output limitation really does seem to matter....unless you wanted to fast charge 4 high capacity (2000mah) batteries AT THE SAME TIME.

It is most useful for giant scale. You can simultantiously charge all batteries in a plane with 2 receiver batteries PLUS an ignition battery PLUS your transmitter. (Let's see your Schultz 936 do that, even at 3x the price.)

The Alpha may be a little dated in that it can't do Lithium batteries, but it's still the absolute best solution at a reasonable price, especially for giant scale modelers.

The Schulze in question (CHAMELEON 8-936x) is $739.99. At 3x the cost of the Alpha-4 I would expect it to have significant advantages in almost every category of specification. It all depends on your application of course but for less than $500 one could easily surpass the capabilities of the 936 in every category. This might require purchasing two or more application-specific chargers.

Not sure where you're getting your info as to the 70 cell capacity on the 936, the Schulze website (as of today) says: 36 cells @10A max. on output #1, 27 cells @5A max. on #2, 6 cells @1.5A on #3. These are all NiCD numbers, not sure about NiMH, etc.

One advantage that Alpha-4 has over the 936 or almost every other on the market is the ability to go down to 1mA on up to 1A in 1mA increments. THe 936 will only go down to 100mA. For me (again back to the application in question,) this is a great feature for forming/maintenance on small packs and for me an important consideration.

Just my $.02.

Jason
