Hey everyone,
I am wndering what would be a better engine at 6000' for my DP Ultimate. I want this thing to be able to hover and the LHS said that the 1.60 should barely be able to hover it. I dindt ask about the YS. What i have read is the Ys is more powerful, will fit in the cowl, but the price is significantly more. All opinions on supercharging, and all that other good stuff would be greatly appreciated. I want my DP to 3d. Thanks everyone.

Go with either one. The OS will hover the DP utimate with ease and so will the YS 140 DZ. I have the Dp ultimate with a YS 120 and it will hover at 1/2 throttle and I fly at 6200 feet elevation.

If I were you I would go for the OS 160 just for the fact that it is one third the price as the YS140DZ or even better yet go with the YS 140 sport it is 300 dollars cheaper than the DZ.

The YS engines are better for 3D because they have instant throttle response. Don't waiste your hard earned cash on the DZ, it just isnt worth all that money, you'll get the best bang for your buck with the YS 140 Sport.

The OS 160 has more power than both of the YSDZ or the sport but just doesn't have the instant throttle response that the YS engines have.

I found a DZ for about 500 bucks, so i think i will get it cause its such a good deal. What prop are you swinging on your Ultimate? Also, how much does your ultimate weigh? Thanks again.

I would love to hear how well the Ultimate does with whatever engine you choose. I also live in Denver but have a CG Ultimate which is a bit smaller than the DP ultimate. I have a Saito 1.80 for it but it but I think it may be too much(although at this altitude it seems nothing is ever too much)

My DZ turns 1000 plus rpm more then my OS 160 on the same prop. The DZ is by far the most powerful 2 pound engine available. You can find deals on them if you look. I absolutely love mine.... I love my OS 160 too but the DZ will eat it for lunch.

Locomotive,

Please give the prop/rpm/fuel and mufflers you are comparing.

My os 160 will swing a APC 18X6 at 9400 rpm with 15% nitro and a bisson bgx muffler and hobbico extensions, or 8000 with a mejzlik 20X6.

Hey Brian,

19x10 Master Airscrew Scimitar / 9400 rpm / Magnum DZ blend (30%) / Header of my own design and build.

Trust me... I have had several OS 160's.... the DZ is MUCH more power from idle on up.

Wow, cranked the DZ up the other day and i am doing over 9000 with an APC 18x8 at 6000 feet!! Didnt expect that much power. However when i put a MA 20x6 wood on it, dropped the rpm like 2000+ rmps!?!? Do MA woods do that? This was my first MA wood. I guess I will be experimenting to see if i can get a prop that will be great for my application. Prop selection would be great guys.

Adam,
Try the 18x8 wide.... makes a big difference. I have a 19x8 wide as well and mine is strong enough to pull it now. The APC wide props are designed for IMAC type flying.... they provide better thrust and better downline breaking. You can order them direct from APC.... apcprop.com

Hey locomotive, Do you think i will get more thrust out of a apc 18x8 wide than a 20x6 pro zinger? I hope so. My pro zinger loads the engine a little tiny bit too much and it doesnt seem as efficient as an apc. I am getting around 18 lbs, but i would like more. hehe. THanks for the help again. I have an apc 18x8 wide. I tried the regular and it just had too skinny of a blade.
