Remember the old Honda ad campaign? "You meet the nicest people on a Honda?" I think that slogan should be modified to read "You meet the nicest people w/ RCs!"

As some of you know, I recently got married. Not that it has anything to do w/ RCs, but I let my friends in The Lounge 2 know, but basically just telling them that I will be away for a couple of weeks, so they don't think I am being kidnapped. (I mean, LB not posting for more than a few days?! He is totally kidnapped...)

I got back from the honeymoon this past Sunday, and resumed my "participation" in The Lounge. Everything is back to normal. I mean, Lounge is important part of my daily routine. I go there to share funny stories, posting silly news, let the folks know what I have been up to, tell people that how my fridge almost caught fires, and hear other people's news.. just like going to a bar and hang out with your friends, except it is done virtually. It is a fun place to hang out, but except a couple of the regulars, I have never met the others in real life. AutoXMan lives in CT so we met up a few times. TEX used to be around, and we hung out a few times as well, but really haven't met others in person.

Not to say that I haven't communicated with the others. I have even done "business" with many of them. I put a quotation sign around the word business because I am not quite sure if it is a business or not, since a business is supposed to be profitable. Basically, I have ordered stuff for folks oversea and then ship them over, as often time, things are expensive in places such as UK, Norway, Romania, etc. I remember once when my parents are in town, they saw all the packages that I need to send out. They asked me what kind of $$$ I was making selling those items. I said, "making money? I don't think it is enough to pay for the gas.." My mom was very understanding (she saw me grow up w/ RC. She bought me the first RC 20+ years ago, a Tamiya Hornet). She said, "yeah, that's alright, you are helping friends out. and RC people are probably pretty nice people"

So that's really the basic extend of "involvement" I have with many here at the forum. I enjoy talking about RCs, building RCs, buying RCs, and actually seeing others enjoying RCs as well. I post a lot, not because I want the post counts (what does it mean anyway?!), but simply because I enjoy converse with others about RCs, and sometimes, get carried away and start going off-topic (LOL!) but all with the best intension in mind..

So what's the point of this post?! Another off-topic random post by LB? Well, yesterday, AutoXMan was on his way to his weekly racing. Called me up and asked if I got time to swing by. It just happened that I was going to go see my wife (cough, I need to get used to that term, cough..) who happens to be working not so far from the shop that AutoXMan races at. I said, sure, would love to see some RC action for sure. (I have been there before and took pictures of AutoXMan kicking tails!)

Expecting just going to the track and see some nitro flying, I got a big big surprise! It turned out that a group of folks that I know here from RCU got together and bought a gift for me and my wife. It is a brand new Canon FS100, a digital camcorder. And a 4GB memory card, that allows me to film up to 120 minutes with this camcorder.

WOW! I did NOT expect this!

In the bag, there's also well wish cards from various people. And there's one with everyone's names on it. More than 10 people contributed to the gift.

As I said before, most of them, I have not met in real life. It is only a virtual world, right?! Nothing is real? Right?! No, this is real. This community, this bond, this friendship, is real. (Heck yeah, the camcorder is real! (joke) )

I am stunned, in fact, by the generosity of my friends here at RCU. I am deeply grateful to everyone who participated in this nicely coordinated stunt! And it was truly a surprise!

Heck, even my wife was impressed!

Didn't I say that you meet the nicest people w/ RCs?!

Thank you all!

Your mom was understanding, but what about your dad?

Nobody notified me of this!

I feel shunned

Congrats LB! And no, I doubt anybody would know you were kidnapped if you WERE, because there's no doubt that you'd finagle your way into using your captors' computer to access RCU

I'd hate to imagine how you'd smuggle a pocket pc and a wireless modem in
