Hey guys, I want to order a kit today TT-01 (specifically: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGXB3). Towerhobbies allow you to buy a combo. I never had an RC car before so I don't know much. Can you guys help me choose a battery, radio, and charger. I want to spend between $170-230. Here is the link for the combo setup options: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0170p?&I=TAMC0323

Also, can you guys give me advice in choosing a very important upgrade for this kit so I can buy it all together?

I would not choose any of those batteries, chargers or radios myself but since you're just starting out....

Here is what I would do, get nimh batteries, at least 2500mah. Get a peak detection charger. Get at least a FM radio system.

Buy used. Get the car new and build it yourself but buy the charger and radio "used".

For instance, if you look in the "buy & sell" section of RCU, go to radios, go to car systems and you'll find tons of radios for under $100. Alot of guys will buy a new RTR kit but not need the radio so they sell them for $50, these are fine for beginners and you end up with a radio for half the price.

Look around and you can find some great deals and you'll end up with better equipment at a lower price. It may take more work but it would be worth it.

Just a couple of options.

Radio:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=442934
http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=440122
http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=439175
All the above come with radio, receiver and servo. The second one is the one I'd get.

Charger:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=440202
http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=439104
http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=439103
All those chargers are peak detection and will charge at decent rates.

For batteries, go to www.cheapbatterypacks.com, here's some http://www.cheapbatterypacks.com/main.asp?sid=1335142&pgid=superlisting&type=car&manufacturer=41&model=546

I just can't recommend anything on that list and keep you under $250. DON'T GET NICAD batteries, they are a waste of money considering you can get 3300mah nimh packes for $30. Don't get an AM radio, they have shorter range and more interferance problems than FM.

I get most of my upgrades from www.rcmart.com, they have way more selection as they carry non tamiya after market items. for instance, for the TT-01 they have 171 different items. A lot of them are the same thing from different manufacturers but you still get a choice. I like using both Tamiya and 3racing stuff.

Remember that I only listed a sample of what's available used. Go to the entire list of used radios and some FM radios are only $30. Make sure you get a reciever with it. If you find one you like without a servo when go looking for a servo. Remember to ask any questions before you make an offer and make sure you have paypal. make offers that are lower than the listed price if you want, most expect it.

not really, the stock rtr radios will be named by the maker... i.e. traxxas, losi... etc. As for other radios look for JR, Futaba, spektrum (if you can find a cheap one), airtronics. Just make sure it's FM not AM.
