We my Magic never stayed on the ground long enough to need a tail wheel. With this type of plane I opt to keep them as light as possible. Now I have a buddy that put a tailwheel on his Magic with a seperate nyrod running back up to the rudder servo. It works very well.....I'd just prefer to do without any uneeded weight.

I do still wanna see some pics though.

Thanks, Scott

you are probably correct, especially with the amount of ruder area you probably don't need a tailwheel. If my fun Air is nose heavy with a saito 72 and the battery all the way back then I will consider a tailwheel, I absolutely hate to add weight, but functional weight is much better than lead. Hopefully I won't need any

Saito 72.................I think youll need more than a tailwheel to balance that plane. I used a TT42 GP and a MCP on my Magic and it hovered at about 3/5's throttle and pulled out great....the nicest thing about it was that it flew very very light. I think the 72 is gonna be way to much power and weight.....just my thoughts though.

I have a spare Saito .72 due to an unlucky crash on my pizzaz, the saito .72 is extremly light for its displacment, it uses the case of a saito 56. its weight with muffler is slightly less that a thundertiger .46pro 16.58oz. Your .42 is much less at 12.16 thats a 4.12 oz savings. I am hoping to make up the 4oz with lighter servos and battery.

Well if your as light as a GMS .47 you should be okay. Ive flown that combnation and it flew pretty good. I was able to hover it very well and it was pretty stable yet manuverable. Maybe not quite as nimble as the TT 42 powered Magic but it should still fly good. I cant wait to get my new Fun Air 40. Looking forward to it.

Hey guys....some one throw up some pictures......please

started construction on the Fun Air 40 3D this weekend, it is done except for the receiver and tank, looks like it is going to be lite even with the Saito .72, the prop(APC 13x6) was too close to the ground so i replaced the factory 1.5" wheels with light 3" wheels, the only big problem besides the manual was the verticle fin. with everything lined up and clearence between the rudder and the stabilizer the fin did not go all the way to the bottom of the fuse, even with 30 minute epoxy it was weak. The solution was to carve down the inside point on 3/8 triangle stock, then slide it under the fin inside the fuse through the hole in the back of the fuse. Once this dried the fin was extremly sturdy. I used two popcycle sticks to set the gap between the rudder and the stabilizer.

Tailspnr

Did you get yours in yet, what is your engine of choice? The Saito .72 will be more than enough power, to get it to work I used the motor mounts that came with the kit, upsidedown(give me more ground clearence), the motor mounts were on the outside edge og the firewall, this made the blind nuts fall on the triangle stock brace. I used a drum sander on a dremmel to cut a flat recess in the triangle stock for the blind nuts to sink into.

I just stopped by the house for lunch and found my new plane on the doorstep. I opened the box and it looks very nice. I had some very slight damage to one wingtip which su** because I can usually tear those up without the help of shipping damage.

At first glance.....about all I had time to do...is that it looks really nice. The contruction f the wing looks solid and a little heavier duty than the magic. I really hope that it comes out as light as the Magic and I'll be really happy. I'll check it out further tonight when I get home and post some more details once Ive had the chance.

I plan on using the same TT42 GP w/ MCP that I had on the Magic as long as it turns out as light as the Magic. Im really curious to see how the fully symetrical wing performs as compared to the Magic wing. Is anyone already flying on to give the comparison?
If it builds as easily as the Magic I should have it done in about 2 nights of work. Cant wait to check it out.

Too nights is about right I started on mine yesterday, and should finish today, there were no recomment CG or throws with the kit what are you going to set yours too for the initial flight?

There were a few others earlier in this thread that have Fun Air 40's, but I haven't ever heard how they fly, Hopefully somebody will speak up and tell us good news! It would be nice to know what to expect the first time the left stick goes up and the right stick goes down..LOL

Also If you are used to the Magic with its extremly tall gear you might consider ditching those small wheels that came with the kit and get you some light 3" foamies, My gear was bent out a little, I bent it in until the wheels were straight and gained an inch or so of clearence.

Well I only became used to the Magic's tall gear after hours of enduring its ugly appearance.....so Im sure I can get used to the look of more traditional looking gear.

Im sure I'll try to set the CG on mine about an 1" back of the main spar to start with. The problem with the Magic was that there was so little room on the inside for the moving of stuff that you almost had to deal with what you got. I think I mounted my motor last so as to get the CG where I wanted it. Once I got mine right it was a flat spinning fool and would hover like nobody's business. I cant wait to try this one. I'll crack the box open later tonight and post some more reports.

Keep us posted. Unfortunately I'm shopping. I boinked my Magic yesterday. I'm gonna wait 'till you guys report in.

I kinda liked the tall gear. It was fun "wheel walking" all the way down the field. Left, right, left... (repeat).

More Later...........
