Ulf, I havent flown mine yet. Im going to make sure that I have it finished by this weekend for testing. I spent all last weekend on the Ohio River at the Unlimited Hydroplane races. I think that has satisfied my water requirements for atleast a weekend so I can get in some flying.........as promised I will eventually report on the flight characteristics.

Dntmn, do you have your Fun-Air balanced as far back as the Magic? Im going to be dissapointed if the Fun-Air doesnt flat spin like my Magic did. Although Im sure the Fun-Air will never flat spin as well as a Magic thats had its rudder chewed off.....

The magic was a little flatter that the Fun air. The fun Air flat spinne a little nose down, but flattens out when the fuel tank is lower. The fun Air was previously balenced at the forwardmost balence point(4 1/3") Last night I moved the battery behind the servos and balenced it at the rearmost point(4 3/4"). I will bet that it will be as flat as the magic. I will test fly these settings sometime this week. I also put a 1/64" shim under the left motor mount to give some more right thrust this should make it hover better, but it already hovers well.

Thanks for your reply. I would really like to see a picture....does it appear to have up or down thrust?

Thanks again.

Marcus

I havent checked the left/right or up/down thrust but I always put a little down and a little right in all my planes like this.

I couldnt stand far enough away from the plane to get it all in one shot so I'll have to attach these seperate.

Heres the straight edge as it reaches the nose. I know that in the other pic the edge looks a little wavy but thats only because I reduced the image enough to make it fit.....I promise its really straight

My Fun Air FINALLY arrived today. I must say that for 98 bucks, this is one nice arf. The covering/building job rivals H9 quality. I've only been working an hour and the wing is done! Talk about a fast build. I'll post pics when I get er flyable... I cant wait!!

Later,
Matt

I settled on the TT PRO .46 for power. I didn't exactly want to spend more on the engine than on the plane. I wanted another cheapie to bang around, and put on floats next week for our float fly. (gonna try some tail dipping)

My delimma right now is what servo's to use. I wonder if I should go high torque for power, mini to keep it light, or just slap in some old standards. I have all 3 options staring me in the face. I'm leaning towards standards.. Any suggestions from anyone??

THnx,
Matt

Can someone please post a pic of their servo setup? Or at least give some advice? I'm trying to figure out how to achieve 3D throws with no binding in that little servo tray. The instruction manual (ahhaha) makes it look sooo easy

Is the wing's centerline parallel to the stab's line? or does it have some +ve incidence?

The Magic's stab line extends just below the engine's centerline, opposite to the fun air, where its above the center line. Hhhmmm....interesting....verrry interesting...

Thanks in advance.

Marcus

Okay, I ligned up another straight edge with the centerline of the leading and trailing edges in the wing saddle. It appears to me to be about 1 to 1.5 degrees difference between the two. Take a look and see what you think.

Id post you a pic of servo setup but I dont have any in the fuse installed yet.

I used an HS 81(micro) on throttle, HS-422(standard ball bearing on elevator and ailerons), and a HS-605 high torque on rudder. I have 50 deg throw on rudder with no issues. How are you goung to make your watter rudder for steering? seperate micro servo on the floats or use the regular rudder servo. Look earlier in this thread I posted oics of my radio setup. I am using a 6 volt NiCd pack. I have now moved the pack behind the servos to shift the balence back. I cut an access hole in the bottom of the fuse, CA'd an pop-cycle stick to the side of the fuse for support and attached the battery to the side of the fuse opposite the muffler for lateral balence with a zip tye, then just recovered the hole i cut, you can't even tell except for the portion of the zip tye that is exposed

Thanks for the advice. I'm not sure I'm gonna use a water rudder at all, but if I do, i will use a sub micro job in the float itself. With as big of an air rudder as this thing has, and with the amount of taxing I don't plan on doing, I may not bother.

THnx,
Matt

Thanks again !

IF the wing is set as a reference (set to 0 deg), then the stab will have a -ve incidence...and the engines thrust lines start lower than the stab.

Anyone flown this thing yet?? How does it handle prop hangs? Low speed flying? Spins?

This is 65" wingspan, AUW is 4 .25 lbs.

Marcus

So TailSpnr
Did you get the maden flight in? I love this plane, since I moved the battery back it flat spins even flatter. I used it in a club funfly this weekend, one event was a 2 minute timed flight. I did not do well, I was having so much fun flatspinning, looping, rolling, and trying to hover that I lost track of time and flew well over three minutes. Lost a lot of points, but got a lot of ohhhs and ahhhs from the spectators..

Let me know what you thing of yours

PS: I completed a "RC Universe online Magizine" review on the Fun Air 3D 40. It should be posted sometime next week.

My fun air is slowly coming along, I really don't like the included hardware, and some glue joints on mine seem to need a little reinforcement (wing bolt plate!!!). It's coming slowly because I'm slow, the kit builds pretty fast. Anyway, I've been trying to replace the control horns with something a little more beefy, but cant find any with screws long enough to go through the ailerons! Does anyone know of any control horns that come with extra long screws?

Thanks,
Matt

Is everyone else having RCU problems...or is it just me. If its just me then I have a serious system problem. My RCU experience has been extremely slow fot the past few days. Im reluctant to blame it on RCU since my whole system seems to be acting strange. Enough of that....

Yeah I got tofly the Fun Air for the first time this weekend. Saturday I went out and wasent too impressed. The wind was gusting to 18 and I lost the coupler to my MCP on the first flight. I tried a repair with duct tape but that only lasted for a few minutes eash time.

I took her home and fixed the problem and came back out Sunday. Much better.....much much better. The flat spins are every bit as impressive as the Magic and the other assorted spins that you can get this baby into are equally as impressive. It took me a while to get the feel of the low down hover but thats probably more of my fingers being rusty than the plane. Once I had the feel it was just as nice in a low down hover.

Overall its just a little better from the standpoint that it seems to be a little more radical with various spins that its capable of. And maybe I just never pushed the Magic that hard but I doubt it. Needless to say its as good as I thought it would be and I'll fly the snot out of it until it reaches the end of it useful life......meaning until I pile it in.

I'll post more if I discover anything new worth mentioning.

TailSpnr,
You said it well! I have not flown a Magic much, but I love what this plane can do!

How much right thrust did you use to get the down low hover?
Any Special Mixing?
What are your control throws?

Shhhhhhhh.....dont tell Gator that. He was too busy flying to realize that's what I was doing. As a matter of fact you should have seen what I was doing while you were flying

Pauly....you outta see this thing fly...........like crazy spins dude. It does an awsome inverted flatspin, blender. It will enter this crazy cross between an inverted flat spin and a pinwheel from vertically climbing lomchevack...or however you spell it.

And hey Pauly.....no matter how much I fly I'll never compare to you wildman..........you da man!
