Status: offline 		DNTMN,Great review I was so impressed I got a red one from Chief Aircraft-They threw in a free Hanger Nine wing hanger.Mine came with all the wing ribs broken in the middle.I did not want to hassle with shipping it back so I ripped off the top covering and repaired it.Recovered the top in yellow for contrast.I have a Mvvs 49 with a pipe on front and I installed mid-size digital HiTecs in the tail.Rudder on top, elev to the side-should help with CG.Almost done and can't wait to get her airborn from what I have read it should be loads of fun.

Status: offline 		Only in a wall like manv. It tends to snap alittle to the right. I really cant tell if its the tail or the Natural way it would snap. I am usally going very slow so I dont really notice. I wish It had a bigger rudder. Might have to make one. Other than that I really am having fun with this plane. Well worth the 100.

The write up you did really helped. Thanks for all the pics and words. Lots of time saved for me.

Sorry I am so slow in responding. The battery is a thin nmh right beside the servo tray kinda tucked back toward the tail. I never take the wings off so I really cant say where it ats now. But it seems to work?

Status: offline 		Finally got a couple of days to put some flights (about a dozen) on my Fun Air.

So far I really like this plane. I've got an OS FX 46 in the plane. My previous fun fly type plane was a Somethin' Extra. The lighter weight of the Fun Air is really noticable, it accelerates out of a hover, the SE would only slowly climb out. The right prop really makes a difference, an APC 11.5 X 4 or 12.25 X 3.75 seems to be the best.

Hovering is much easier with the Fun Air than on the SE. If I fall out of the hover I can use the excess engine power to get back into the hover. Inverted requires a little less down elevator than the SE. I haven't been able to knife edge much so far. On the SE I needed full rudder and full throttle to hold it level, the Fun Air doesn't need much rudder. However, there is more coupling on the Fun Air than the SE. I have got enought aileron travel, and my CG is at the front of the recommended range, so spins aren't much good yet. Touch and goes are easy, even though all I have at the tail is some hard plastic secured by double sided tape.

I plan to move the battery behind the wing to move the CG to the back of the recommended range. I find the transparent covering very hard to see, I've already added a bright orange stripe, I will be adding some bright yellow to make it easier to see.
I wish the fuel tank was a little bigger, 8 oz would be nice.

Assembling the plane wasn't too bad. Quality of the plane was good, but the holes for the wing bolts and the landing gear weren't quite right. Hardware is poor, the threaded rods in my kit were already rusting. Worse, a pin in one of the clevis's had fallen out, the others don't look too secure. I replaced the dowel to the elevator with a Sullivan golden rod, works great and the clevis's are of course much better.

Overall though, I would strongly recommend this plane. It's very reasonably priced, so you can afford to buy better hardware if you want. I like it so much I may pick up another one at Jet Hobbies

Sounds great, You think it hav verticle with an OS .46 try it with a Saito .72. On pavment from Idle I can lift off within the length of the plane straight up. I removed some balsa sheeting from the underside of the fuse aft of the servo tray, glued in two pop-cycle sticks for reinforcment, and zip-tied my battery in through the fuselage, then just covered the hole with white monocoat.

A 10oz sullivan flex-tank fits in the plane well(see my review)

Status: offline 		Hey guys,Run the mid-sized Hi-tecs in the tail.Really helps with the CG.I have a MVVS 49 with a pipe and put a 8 oz sullivan tank in it.With a APC 12.25x3.75 it is awsome even up here at 5000ft.

Unfortunately I haven't got any scales around, not even a bathroom scale. I think I will buy some postal scales as a Christmas present to myself. It seems to be at least a pound lighter than my Somethin' Extra.

I plan to try what you did dntmn, putting the battery behind the servos. I'm using a 1100 ma Nicad, hopefully it fits.

The 10 Sullivan sounds like a good idea.

It would be really nice to have a larger version of this plane, maybe a Fun Air 90 or 120.

Try e-bay for a scale, I paid $25 for a digital scale that will measure up to 25lb with a .1oz accuracy, it will also measure in grams

Status: offline 		Just finshed my Funair 40; The wrost ARF I've built so far.
It did come out nice, has a TT46 on the nose, a larger fuel tank, a steerable tail wheel, and it weighs only 3.8lbs!!!!!!

Status: offline 		I second that on the worst ARF! it's real ****ty, but yours did come out nice. Mine's needing a replacement because they just fall apart after about a year (if you fly them enough without crashing). That yellow one sure does look nice.

Status: offline 		I put an OS 40FP and it came out real nice. 4 1/2 inches I believe. Very nice flying plane. Does inverted flat spins like a frisbee.

Putting it together right was a challenge but once it's together that is all forgotten. It flies perfectly. The dudes at the field all want one.

I have been flting my fun-air 40 with a saito .72 for over a hear now, this plane has a lot of flights and seems to stand up to the test of tome. I have knocked the gear off two times with extremly hard landings, and did a flat spin all the way to the ground and busted a wing-tip. otherwise it remains my favorate plane. I just installed a camera pod on it and will be testing it today.
