A buddy just sent me this photo from a bone-yard over there and it seems like good finish paint photo reference for any T-55, too.

Here's the latest, guys. I'm still scratching my head over the news but it collaborates what has been posted earlier.

Hooben has decided to first release this as ARTR LESS electronics. Cost is 1500rmb or USD221.

Kit LESS electronics will follow, possibly as early as next month. Cost is 1000rmb or USD147.

Electronics package is still under development - no date yet can be offered when it will be ready. As far as I know, its to be Tamiya compatible & is being done in cooperation with a local firm. Cost will be 1500rmb or USD221.

So far no distributor has been confirmed so all orders will be direct through Hooben. I plan to sit this one out until the kit is ready.

ARTR = fully assembled tank with motors / gears but no electronics. You'd have to use Tamiya, ElMod, Clark to get her moving.

KIT = same as above but in kit form as was Hooben's original plan.

I would presume they don't have instructions/packaging ready yet to start shipping kits. Also ARTR means the factory has more business to keep the workers busy in these slow times.

Don't worry - Ark has shipped many ship model kits to the EU so am certain this T55 won't pose any problem.

Where are you located in Deutschland? I have friends who live near Dortmond & Friedrichshafen.

Friedrichshafen, home of the Zeppelin on beautiful Lake Constance. I've got to get over there one of these days as its been far too long since I last visited Germany.

No, I won't be ordering any containers filled with T55s, but I'm eager to build Hooben's new kit after seeing it in person several times. It will be a nice addition to anyone's collection.

1. Could You tell me what kinds of motors are in ARTR version : 2 driving motors only? or motors for turret rotation, barrel elevation and recoil system too?

2. So as I understand "fully assembled tank " needs electronics (Elmod for example) and RC transmitter-receiver only ?

3. Is ARTR model painted (with barrel and all wheels) or looks as it is shown on the pictures on hooben website (silver barrel and wheels)
http://www.hooben.com/t-55a_e.html

4. are they any spare parts for T55 available? - for example driving motors - are they Heng Long compatibile ?

5. what LNS, CSC (221$) means?

Does anyone know what's happening in Hooben?

About 2 weeks ago, I sent them an email asking them about the ARTR version of the T-55 and requested for the total price and ordering procedure, but no reply...finally today they replied my email, but it was an advertisement about their ark models boats that has nothing to do with the T-55!

I hope this is not a reflection of the kind of response that I'll be getting from their after-sales service after the purchase...if they ever give me an answer abt the T-55!

Same here i keep getting bits and pieces like how to pay on paypal, then an intended submarine brochure which did not get through. I keep asking for a total price for a t-55 ARTR including shipping and cannot seem to get my message responded to in a way i can make a purchase. Do I need to google translate to chinese to make this request?

Yeah. I think I'll wait awhile until they get everything in order. Kit contents, Info pack and everything else.

Got another message this morning from Hooben. The ARTR will now be available in August. They will send me a email when available. I do not think these folks really have a clue.

Bill:

Will you be acting as a reseller for this tank in NA, or do we need to deal with the rather poor communications that Hooben/ArcModels has in place?

You'd think that if they want to sell it in English-speaking countries, they could at least get a sales person who speaks/writes English and ~knows~ something about the unit (not some email shuffler who pops off pointless e-brochures to any enquity) and perhaps they'd come here and reply to our queries about it?

How about it Herrmill/Kclank, can one of you put this idea to them?

Barring some ~solid~ contact (of which I've seen NONE yet) this T55 is a phantom-product, much like those ones years ago by that rip-off company RCTank (not the current user of the name) Surely you guys from the old late-90's RC Armor Forum remember them, eh? I came ~so~ close to sending 'em $ for one of the SHADO-Mobile bodies... which were a fiction as well.

they answered :
> Freight: 132USD
is it possible ?

second question:
When Hooben electronics for T55 will be available?
>Next month.

the third one:
Is any details regarding this electronics in known - price?, sound quality ? etc.
>No answer

I emailed hooben, making SIMPLE short sentences, each one coupled with chinese translation provided by google.

Hello. I would like to buy the T-55 kit

Is it available.

How much does it cost?

..

I did not receive a boat commercial, but a chinese answer. I copy and pasted it on google translation, which said:

"please provide your QQ or Skype detail and we will contact you".

Uh.... I don't get it.. such simple questions could be answered in the email... but okay... on skype then?... still waiting

here's one video of the tank prototype on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1USexy7aLiQ

Looks good. I really hope these nice folks get this T-55 project in gear.

One remark to be made, after close inspection of toy fair picture.. the upper hull appears not to be  molded plastic but a stereolithography ( STL ) prototyped shell or silicon molded resin. I say this because the underside, inner part of the upper shell was an off-white color, typical of such material on prototypes. My guess.

Also, most of you surely noticed that most plastic parts are a direct scale-up of tamiya 1/35 T55 kit released a few years ago.
The suspension die-cast/ zinc parts look very good.
Tamiya leopard 2 had a ABS molded hull if I remember, while most part are thick polysterene ( PS) which is cheaper ( lower melt temp ) but not as strong.
If Hooben can get most parts in ABS... oh man... that would be sweet.
I would expect more flashes and perhaps less detailing as the ABS molding might not be as crisp as a tamiya PS part... but I could live with that.

Anyway... I'd buy the kit , no electronics... hope the sprockets fit tamiya gearboxes... I'd install KV-1 gearboxes and sound module in...
would that engine be close enough?

can't wait....

neat video and i love how smooth the suspension works. this is a must have for me so i hope they can put all the business stuff together and get it out on the market.

Be nice to see how/if the recoil looks.
