I removed the motor this morning, removed the back plate and the one way bearing? (sorry no camera) had cracked in half. Just like in this photo I found of another person who had the same proble.
http://www.aeforums.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=2646

I will call Associated on Monday for a replacement. This sucks.

I will likely get a back plate, and go for a starter box.

Hi, New here I was looking for SC8 info and came across this, I also Rounded my starter drive and Its at a Horrible angle and combined with a tough break in the shaft just doesn't cut it IMHO, Starter box is next for me, My 1rst tank with the Stock glow plug I just left the igniter on it, Only way mine would stay running which after the first tank it started better but not easy as it was sooo rich with the factory settings, so far after 5 tanks it runs ok but still too rich, went through 4 OS R5 and #8 Glow Plugs, I definately think the R5 is a Better starting plug but i never drove with it FWIW, Lots of Good info on this site, I definately need help on mine! I build 4 cycle Pontiac V8 Race engines and the RC is fairly new to me But overall i'm glad i got the SC8, It Smokes my Bros Traxxas 3.3 Slayer!, Anyone know what all i need for the starter box swap? or should i get a Tiger Drive Made? Thanks Much!

You don't need anything for a starter box swap.....other than a working 1:8 scale starter box. I didn't even bother with a back plate for the back of my motor. This is the box that I bought, which is great:

What is a Tiger drive?

http://sullivanproducts.com/TigerDriveMainFrame.htm thats the link for the Sullivan Tiger drive setups, Basically they make custom rear plates that put your drive at a different angle so you don't have to go through the rear of the truck to start it, FWIW I still want to use the Box, Thanks for the link! Did you get the different flywheel? Also anyone know who makes the Aluminum 3 finger clutch for these?

AE is coming through and sending a replacement one-way bearing to me.

From my local hobby store. I ordered a back plate for the motor and bought a Onfa truggy starter box.

Once the backplate or AE one way bearing arrives (to fix the prostart system) I'll be ready to run again.

Hello, Im expecting mine on friday, very excited. Im swaping out the motor for a .28 jammin, or the LRP .28 I havent made up my mind yet. Im also debating getting a aftermarket clutch. Do I have to use the shim that comes with the ae clutch on the aftermarket clutch? Xtm makes a 1/8 slideing clutch. Does anyone have anything good to say about thoes? would it even work, only familiar with the shoe style. Any suggestions on clutch spring rates.

Thanks all

I'd just get some Dynamite Max Life clutch shoes and Mugen 1.0 springs..

Don't know what clutch comes on the SC8, but the stock RC8T alu clutch shoes are good IMO.. I imagine it's the same on the SC8.

Thunder Tiger part #AA0779 is the back plate. You'll need to shave the pin off the crank shaft to make it fit.

Got the Ofna Truggy box with dual 775 motors for starting. Stupid AE Pro Start in the most awkward nested position.

Haven't started it up yet. It's been super cold here lately. When it warmer than 0 degrees Celcius I'll give this truck another shot at firing up and motor break in.

Ive been having trouble getting mine to start and run and also having a ruff time getting itto lean down enough, seams its still tight even after 6-7 tanks through it, I need to know the Adjustments of a truck that is running good not the break in adjustments but after breaking, Can Anyone help? Thanks, PS The AE Roto Whatever starter is at the Worst angle ever I have no clue who thought that little shaft wouldn't end up rounding off if you actually have to crank on it for a while to start it! I am following suit and getting the same Offna dual motor box, Do you know if i need a different flywheel?

Another note, The 086 pipe will fit the RC8 Chassis and is not made for our extended RC8T Chassis so either re use your header pipe and rubber splice or get a longer muffler brace and possibly trim the side plastic thats connected to the chassis FWIW

Mine is running great, but I don't think it would do any good for me to figure out my settings and give them to you. I am running 20% nitro (most run 30% in 1:8 scale) and we are in different climates. It is in the 70s here in Texas.

I did not install a new flywheel; my truck is stock. The Ofna box starts mine w/o a problem.

I have had my sc8 for a couple of weeks now and finally had a chance to run it at my track. I like the way it looks and handles. what I dont like is the starting system. I have rounded the hex off the starter shaft and will be getting a starter box asap. also is it normal for their to be some leakage of fuel/oil around the roto start area on the motor, after running for awile?
mine runs great and holds its tune nice, (finally). it runs strong and for our smallish track is geared just right. I did change the shock oil and preload shims front and rear to my liking for our track, and she is dialed in nice. I also changed tires to some sportwerks and ofna 17mm rims.
today though I did break my front right steering knuckle and have a replacement on the way, sucks. also most places I have looked online have dropped the price some already.
I was lucky when getting mine at my lhs as I did not need the radio and got 100.00 off the top. sweet.

I just wanted to see how far off i was and needed imput But if its a secret I understand If your truck is leaking oil/fuel then air can be getting in and can screw up the tune From what i understand, Ive rounded 2 starter drives an Just Made my own today out of a harder material and so far so good but the Starter box is still best IMO especially since you don't need to change anything!
