I have an E-flite In-Runner motor that is set up as a direct drive with a Master Airscrew 6-3 prop, Hextronic 036 ESC with a Turnigy UBEC and either a 2 or 3 cell LiPol battery. At full throttle, it draws 13 to 15 amps and gets extremely hot . I believe that this motor is rated at 10 amps full throttle so I may be pushing it too much. If I were to install an E-flite EFLM 216 or 221 gearbox module, would that reduce the load and drop the temperature/excessive heat I am experiencing? Will appreciate any advice on this problem.

The 6.6:1 ratio should be good for a 11x6 or 12x6 prop on a 3S LiPoly without the motor overheating. You'll get a lot more thrust but nowhere near the speed.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for your input. I got an E-flight gearbox module and set it up with my 370 in-runner motor. Works fine! Runs cool and gives plenty of thrust with a EP 9.47 prop.
