Anyone knows if this is this the same type of reed valve material used in the "old" DA100?

Uraya, what type of gas and oil are you using?

Call Boyesen and see if they are still in business. Maybe they can custom make a real set of reeds.

Here's a link. http://www.boyesen.com/cwo/Home

Another link to an outboard's set of reeds. It describes the benefits. http://www.boyesen.com/cwo/OUTBOARD/Products

I'm looking to do some experimenting with reeds on a couple of engines and the DA reeds look to be easy enoigh to work with for what I wanted to do. Boyesen reeds are noted to be among the best available but expensive because of the quality. I didn't want to spend too much during the experimenting

I can tell you that a friend of mine had the same situation as pictured in the right photo with his DA-100. It is an older model DA.

Dont crucify me for saying this, but the reed in my Evolution 45 are carbon fiber. The DA carb is the same as the Evolution. Perhaps the reeds are the same. Going out on a limb here. I never heard of one breaking yet. In my dirtbike day, Boysen had THE reeds to have. Much better quality than the manufacturer. Some were even tuneable.

Some of us at work have the same opinion. Better reeds are hard to find! Be sitting down when you discover the price.

I would much prefer to locate some suitable sets of carbon reeds or make some myself. The problem with making them is that with any set of reeds you don't cut them as much as you shear them in a one punch deal. Cutting permits them to fray around the edges over time. So you first have to make a perfectly shaped cutting punch for any of the woven fiber reeds. I don't have the time or the patience to do that.

I wonder if you could adapt saxophone/woodwind reed cutters to do the job? They come in several sizes.

Original REED SHEET is 0.25mm thikness so my friend maked REED SHEET 0.1mm stainless sheet,
Tryed yesterday, out of temperature is 16℃ , oil 40:1 (AMEIL), mejzlik 26x10 , max 7200 rpm, unleaded gas.
After 4 flts like this resoult .come more worst. stainless is no good for REED.
Damage position is always same before. Plz ref picture.

Hello Tony ,I will contact latter . First will you explain detail

1)what reason for damage your original FRP sheet.

2)What is the improvement for your NEW REED SHEET.

What you have experienced with the stainless reeds is why I am adamantly opposed to metal reeds. The missing portion of that reed went somewhere inside your engine. It has nowhere else to go. You now have the task of performing a complete engine tear down to locate and remove the missing portion of the reed and/or to assess the amount of damage that part has caused to the engine.

One up and coming engine manufacturer uses metal reeds and it's only a matter of time before the failures begin to occur.
