Does anyone out there know an online site where I can get a price quote on a piston/liner assembly for an OS .60FP engine? I have one that I can't seem to get to run very well and I can look into the exhaust port and see that the liner is peeling. I don't know if that would prevent the engine from running right, but it certainly won't help it. I like this engine and I would really like to get it to run well.

If you can't find an OS 60FP set up try to find a Thunder Tigre 60GP P/L. It will drop right in

That is a good suggestion right there, TT has not had a widespread problem with peeling.

OS ABN liners are crap, I have two peeled .61SF and one .46FX peeler. I was able to repair the .46 with a magnum .46 P/L set and I am still working on the SF problem.

I can't find anything on the Tower site for the .60FP either. Maybe someone on RCU has a piston/liner assembly or even an engine with a cracked case or other problem but with a good liner and piston that he might be willing to part with. That might be my only hope at this point.

As a poster above mentioned, you can find items like 230308165220 on other sites(auction). I'd bet over a period of a week you could find a new/near new engine for hardly more than the parts price.

Hey Jollypopper. Could you measure the OD (in millimeters) of your 60fp liner and post it here. I've been putting together a crossreference for some of OS's older engines and was wondering the size.

Roguedog:

I just got a quick look before the battery in my digital caliper went south, but it looked like 27.7 - 27.8 mm. I'll try to remember to get a battery next time I go to town and re-measure.

BTW, I like your signature. I'd like to prove some of 'em wrong on that one.

Wow! That would make it a 28 mm OD. For some reason my calipers measure mm smaller that it actually is. The good news is if it is 28mm, it's that is the same OD for the 61FSR could be swappable. wouldn't that be cool.

Following up a bit here guys, what are the chances that some of the pieces of the liner will get in the crankcase and eat the bearings? When I went ahead and pulled the liner out, I noticed some flakes from the liner on top of the piston. That can't be good.

Jeez, you're right. I knew it was a bushed engine. Just a fit of stupidity there when I submitted that last post. Forgive meI'm old.

Roguedog: I just noticed your last post. I still haven't got a new battery for my caliper so I haven't been able to recheck my measurement. However, I do have a .60 FSR which I consider to be the best RC engine in that range of sizes that has ever been produced. I know that could start a controversy to which I won't even respond. I simply think the .60 and .61 OS FSRs are great engines. I would not even consider using the liner from an FSR in an FP unless the FSR engine was total junk except for the piston/liner assembly. I'm even considering replacing this FP with an FSR if I can find one.

I do thank you for your response though. I will make a special trip to town tomorrow to get a battery for this caliper. I need it working even if not for this project. However, I have no way of knowing how accurate it is even if it is working. I suppose I could measure something of known length to check it. I'll have to think about that for awhile.

Got it backwards JP. If the 60FP piston/liner is the same, then we have a source of liners for the FSR/SFN engines. Why would anybody want to take a BB engines liner and put it in a brass bearing engine. You should be ashamed of yorself for even thinking of such an idea. hehe

Oh, roguedog, my bad. I will now go chastise myself severely. But I must admit you had me wondering about your sanity when I thought you were contemplating dismantling FSR engines. Unthinkable.

Has there ever been anything more found out about replacement pistion/sleeves for this motor? mine has crapped out and i cant find the original 26023000 part, so looking to see if it would still be more economical to rebuild it or just get a new motor

I have a near new FP that suffered a crash and broke the carb and muffler off. I may be convinced to part with it then you just have to install your parts on it.

G8er,

I finally had a chance to measure a 60FP piston and liner and it turns out to be 23mm. This is the same size as 61SF piston but the FP piston is massive compared to the SF. Nothing is exchangable with the SF and other other models of OS engines.

The only way to get replcement parts for that engine is what Jeffie is offering.

Regards

Wow, was it a 23 I saw flashed before the caliper died? I guess that's possible. I have a new caliper now. Just for kicks, I may measure one of my .60 FPs just for fun. But if it is 23mm, that means the stroke has to be much longer than the FSR to get the same displacement. That should make the FP torquier (is that a word?) than the FSR. Right?

JP,

Yep the 60FP is a long stroke engine. It has the the same bore and stroke as the OS 61SF engine not to sure if the liner will work in a SF motor as I didn't check the outside diameter of the liner. I think the liner isn't as thick as the SF liner.

What's funny is OS calls it a 60 instead of a 61. Must of been confused I guess when designating the engine.

Hey Roguedog,

I just went out to the shop and took a .60FP apart. It needed to go into a crockpot anyway. I got the ID at 23.01mm and the OD at 27.97. Are you saying the FSR has a 28mm OD?
