Hello,
I have just purchased a Comp-Arf Kangaroo and want to install your Super Bee turbine, Ok with that said I am totally turbine ignorate, so does this turbine start with propane, air, or butane? This I think would fly it nice seeing this is my 1st turbine jet I don't want to go warp III and should get longer flying times with the less fuel draw.

For your own sake, please get with someone in the area who is flying turbines and get some tips. I know from experience that will save time, money, and a lot of frustration. The turbine uses powermix or propane to start. Bob

First, all responders thus far are correct. The Kangaroo will fly on the jf50 Super Bee, but it is simply not enough thrust to perform as it should in all envelopes of flight. . .that is to say, flying with no unusual attitudes and getting yourself into and out of unusual attitudes. Our jf100 Falcon is not only better, but a perfect match for this airframe.
As B-58 said. . .make yourself known to any and all turbine pilots in your area. There are many and all will offer assistance keeping you on a successful course .
All Jet Central Micro Turbines ignite initially by using propane. Propane may be found at most camping outlets, all the Marts in the camping department as well as Home Depot, Lowes and ACE Hardware. Others use PowerMax by Coleman, however it is becomming more difficult to source AND the trigger nozzle for this can is almost impossible to locate.
Our website is www.jet-central.com which offers a complete description of all five of our current turbines as well as an updated gallery of users.
Hope this helps. . .
Best regards,
Eric Clapp

RE: Eric Clapp
FOD screens currently available through several jet hobby suppliers will fit, but with the Falcon, the fit is not the best. Purpose built FOD screens will be released in the very near future. We are working with Brett / AusJets in the production of screens for all Jet Central Turbines. In the interum, you can visit your local ACE Hardware, any of the Marts etc. and pick through their selection of sink strainers. Look for one which has the largest mesh yet fits the diameter of the Falcon as near perfect as possible. Next, O rings. . .again, pick out an O ring which fits snug over the starter motor assembly
Arriving back at your work station, Dremel out the center (eye protection please) of the strainer so it fits over the starter motor assembly. Last, a bead of silicone around the now exposed cut wires, will finish off the project. Total cost should be around $3 bucks.

They are quite easy to make. Mine started with a 4" stainless kitchen strainer I bought at my local Meijers for $4. Kitchen strainers are more convex than sink strainers, but you have to look harder to find one with a course enough mesh screen.
Rather than Dremel out the center I cut a small X in the center and extruded the screen over a 1" copper pipe, then applied Goop to make a flange to fit over the starter. After the Goop set I trimmed off the excess screen wires. I made a rubber gasket and glued it to the surface that mates up against the turbine housing. After installation it is held in place with an O-ring.

Black "O" ring may be found at ACE near you or HomeDepot and Lowes. Measure OD of your starter motor cover and purchase and "O" ring just a bit smaller. Works great. Unless you want a spare, you will only need one as they last for a very long time.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,
Eric

RE: Eric Clapp
The R&D and testing are being done by Brett who is affilliated with Aus Jets. I have nothing further to report at this time. Initial testing indicated the screen mesh was too small causing less air than on demand to enter the turbine with resulting higher operating temperature.
Thanks for the question,
Eric Clapp

Edgar:
The temperature increase we experienced with the first sample raised the temperature 23% which is unacceptable. Screen mesh and overall diameter too small.
Simple test for your installation is to check temps at idle - 1/2 - 3/4 - and full throttle w/o FOD. Then install FOD and check again. Any increase in temperature will be easily noted. I personally use sink strainers which I find at W-Mart or any Hdware store.
