The only way to currently buddy box an SD-10G is with another SD-10G, edulago. Global/Airtronics are working on a way to make the SD-10G more buddy box friendly, but by all reports it's still a work in progress.

You didn't say if the noise is coming from the transmitter, if so my transmitter makes no sound other than beeping when I push the buttons.

Hi everybody,

the noise comes from the transmitter... It sounds like a notebook accessing a hard drive, but much lower... Some people can´t heard it... I disabled the beep on click for instance...

best regards

edulago, don´t worry. I can here the electrons running through the Tx too It´s the same with my RDS8000. Most people can not here it but as you I am able to here that certain frequency.

I can't confirm that the noise occurs on every SD10G unit because I have only one. Pippin said it occurs on his units too (including a RDS8000). It can be normal (would be good to have an official confirmation), but doesn't matter the noise, the transmitter is powerful and I'm really happy with it (I believe you will be happy too)... I'm just a little bit curious about the "noise"...

Best Regards

Hi,
Thanks for the info. If mine makes noise, and it is not mentioned in the manual, I think I'll write to Airtronics and ask.

...I even checked two sets of the RDS 8000 and both were the same. Some notbooks do the same thing. It is mostly one of the capacitor that oscillates. In a notebook it can be annoying, especially if the cooling fan is not running and you have to do some brain work. In an outdoor device like a Tx you can only here it at home if you have a good hearing.

Hobby People has combo deals on the 7 & 8 channel receivers, but the only deal I've seen on the 10 channel is if you buy the transmitter at the same time. I've had my eye on this radio for a long time, and finally bought one Friday afternoon because Hobby People offered a second 10 channel receiver for free with the purchase of the radio package already including one 10 channel receiver. This made the "standard" $499 deal too hard to pass up, even though I live in California and had to add sales tax and shipping charges (when compared to some other dealers). Between this and the radio and 7 channel receiver for $349 deal, it's a good time to buy especially if you live outside California and don't have to worry about sales tax.

Some people reported having problems with old analog servos on the 10ch Rx. I just checked different analog servos on my Rx: No problems at all.

Hi everybody,

my SD10g battery is charged. When I turn the transmitter on, I heard a really low noise... Does it happen to someone else?

best regards

I just received my SD-10G last week and have been trying to find time to read the manual.  I am impressed that when using the 92104 receiver that this system has the "Safety Link" system!  (Essentially what JR calls the "Model Match" feature on the JR 9303 system.)  I wasn't expecting that.  Now I am even more stoked about the features of this radio purchase!

Got the 2-for-1 deal on the 92104 receiver and ordered the USB adapter as well.  Hobby People was great to deal with.  I was impressed that I received a phone call the day after I placed the order.  They wanted to ensure that I actually placed the order from them, beings this was my first time ordering from the, and it was a sizable purchase trying to make sure that no one was using my credit card fraudulently.  Kudos on their customer service thus far . . .

But, alas some bad news:  I charged the battery for 24 hours, as directed in the manual.  I turned it on once for just a moment, to check out the display, then set it in my transmitter case for the last few days (life's been a bit too busy to mess with it too much right now).  But tonight I pulled it out to turn it on and listen for the sound that Edulago was noting, and "yes" Edulago, mine makes an audible sound, as well.  It doesn't seem to be anything too out of the ordinary for an electronic device to make this type of noise, so that really didn't bother me, but the alarm going off a moment later did.  It seems that I am suffering the same battery issue that a couple others of you have experienced and posted about, also.  After charging it for 24 hrs., turning it on for 1 minute, then setting in the case with the power off for a few days, then turning the switch on for just another minute (or less), and I am receiving a Low Power alarm, and the display indicates I have 6.6 volts.  Not acceptable performance for a 1500mah 7.2v battery!

I did this to provide power.
The stock setup works if you cycle the batterie's a few time. I just wanted a lipo.

I had problems with my battery capacity as well until it had about 3 or 4 cycles on it. Now it holds up to a day of flying, with charge to spare. Actually have gone 2 days of flying with no problems. I do plan to switch to the lipo soon. Keep in mind though, if you are using a lipo, and leave your transmitter turned on long enough to run the lipo dead, it will be dead. You cannot revive a completely dead lipo. So don't forget to turn it off.

I got one of the first SD-10G radios and I absolutely love the radio. But the battery that comes with the transmitter is just barely adequate even after 3-4 slow charge cycles. I think Airtronics was thinking ahead on this when they designed the transmitter to use 7.2 volts. I went the Lithium Ion route to solve the problem. Fromeco makes a 7.4 2600 mah pack that just drops right in. They even have the correct plug. You have to add a bit of foam to keep it from moving around in the box. I can fly all day and still have about 7.8 volts on the display. I bought 2 and keep one in the transmitter case for a backup. These batteries are a bit safer than the LiPolys and you can safely charge them with your Hobbico Quick Field Charger MkII.

That's nice too.
I should add that we would probably be wise to cut the wires leading from the charge plug on the transmitter to avoid it somehow getting hooked up to the standard charger.

You are probably right about that. Every since I had a cell short while charging my Stylus transmitter batteries and melting the plastic case while in the transmitter, I have been removing the battery for charging. Airtronics has made that easy to do.

Fromeco Li-Ion (not LiPo), which is exactly what I use. If you order it from Fromeco with a balance tap to match your charger, you don't need to disconnect/remove the battery to charge it. Just flip open the rear door, pop out the balance tap and hook up your charger.

I performed an initial 22 hr. formation charge on the stock TX battery , then cycled 3 X. My stock battery gives me five 11 -12 min. flights and is still going strong. But by that time, I'm pretty well petered out.

Hobby People is currently advertising a more potent (2200mah) 7.2 NiMh Tx pack (Order # 475025, Mfr. # 950557) It is in stock for $36.99.

Whether I get it depends on if Airtronics packages it with more recent production model SD-10Gs. I need two additional 10 ch RX and the combo sale($499.99) runs through the end of Jan. Simple math tells me thats like getting a spare TX for $163 !

I like mine enough to have a backup, but with a promised 12 -14 channel radio suppossedly coming soon, maybe I'll wait .

Frank
