I was just wondering if anyone here has any experience working with this stuff. And can offer me some advice on a way to mount the cage to the savage.

Hello Ivan,

I have the same problem too. I have a savage XL brand new and it came with a roll cage which is supposed to be mounted between the read shock tower and the strut un front of the engine.

The thing is that the roll cage is just too short, it will not reach the rear shock tower. My best guess would be that this part is actually a Savage X part and since the XL is longer...

What can be done in this case?

Thank you,
Red

The reason the engine guard (which doesn't fit) was included with the XL is because its on the same sprue tree as the roll bar/handle. Quite negligent of HPI really.

The best work around for this I have seen is in this thread:
LST Killer
Its the eighth picture in the first post.

Though I haven't heard since regarding how this custom basher has coped so far. I suspect quite well.

Well honestly i wasn't talking about the stock head guard for the savy, I am talking about the nylon bar i just purchased to MAKE a cage. Just needing ideas on how to mount the cage ....what part is the strongest? the frame? the bulkheads?

Id Imagine cut to form, drill mounting holes, and possibly attach to stock roll bar so you have a base. You could also just make a circle with it for height, zip tie it to the stock top of the head protector, and zip tie to the rear shock tower. In reality that outcome would be easier then making one scratch and serve the same exact purpose. I might change mine up and do similar because if the force is great enough, the head is getting scratched anyway with the stock one. Needs another half inch of height.

those look pretty thick...how flexible r they? anyway, I'd say get you a little short piece of plastic and place it behind the shock towers, bring your roll cage mount down to the shock towers, bring 'em through the holes it and mount 'em to the plate...

Yeah they are pretty thick, i can bend them from tip to tip by hand, and it springs right back into shape.

They have to be heated to bend and be able to retain a bend.

You can get IMUN80 cage mounting brackets for the same rods off Ebay.
