Shep,
I would break in the engine on the bench first. Buy an engine test stand, its sound investment, will save hours of frustration. And sort out the starter, you won't get anywhere without it.

Well I just got my cmp corsair 50 today.
I will say, upon unboxing, I knew this plane is going to be a bit of a project.

I'm taking the Saito FA90-R3 radial, I was using in a hangar9 corsair 60, and putting it in this bird.
I hope my fancy radial will power this one much better than my 9 pound 60.
I had "upgraded" to a dle 20cc gasser for the hangar 9. Which is just perfect BTW
Since the radial is a heavy motor, I hope it will balance this model perfectly without adding extra weight.

I ordered the same retract set for mine. I noticed the same thing you , apparently, did.
The spar interferes with the retract motor.
I see you cut your spar to make them fit. Is this safe?
I was thinking about adjusting the oleo further down the wire to get the extension that I need.
I found i can barely stuff the whole mechanism in the wing, far forward, without cutting the spar.
But then the wheels do not reach the wells.

Hi!  Do you have to angle the glow engine to have down-right thrust?!  If I do that, i might have to cut the dummy engine cowling.

IIRC down-right thrust is built in the airframe, you don't need to change anything

WELL, I READ THIS ARTICALE ON THIS CORSAIR, WELL, I WILL TELL YOU, ITS A PIECE OF JUNK, NOTHING IS DESIGNED RIGHT, YOU HAVE TO MODIFY THINGS  TO MAKE IT WORK, EVERY TIME YOU FLY IT, YOU HAVE TO BRING IT HOME TO REPAIR IT AND FLY IT AGAIN, CMP SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO PRODUCE SOMETHING LIKE THIS, I KNOW, I HAVE HAD TWO OF THESE AND THEY JUST FALL APART ON LANDING OR TAKING OFF, THERE IS NO QUALITY IN THESE ,THE DESIGN IS POOR , BAD WOOD, THE WING IS WEAK, WILL BREAK ON  LANDINGS SOMETIME, FOR THE TIME AND MONEY, GET A HANGAR NINE 50 CORSAIR OR ANOTHER TOP LINE BRAND WHERE THERE IS GOOD CRAFTMANSHIP AND GOOD DESIGN THAT WILL HOLD UP AND NOT FALL APART, ID RATHER BE FLYING THAN PATCHING IT UP SO YOU CAN FLY IT AGAIN, CMP IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY, THEY ARE CHEAP JUNK, GOOD LUCK  FLYING

I have a highly modified CMP Spitfire 50-54 converted to EP and it's definately a fantastic ARF. I even bought a spare NIB I liked it so much. I would have bought a Corsair 50 based on the qaulity of the Spit but after reading several disappointing experiences with it I changed my mind. Some of their other stuff seems to be pretty good but I'm not familiar.

Well I got it 2nd hand already built but not flown, the only mod done to the ARF by the previous owner was to replace the elevator fork pushrod with a 2-servo setup and I fitted ESM scale 80-degree retracts and struts.

The rest was done with an airbrush ...
