Status: offline 		I'm thinking about buying an 18" Poulan chain saw with a 40cc engine to make something out of. The only thing I'm confused about is the crankshaft...how exactly do I attach a clutch or something to it?

Status: offline 		I talked to a guy here locally that builds 1/4 or 1/5 scale monster trucks with Poulan chainsaw engines. He said he used the stock clutch assembly that came with the chainsaw. I never actually saw the trucks he made, but he was going to bring them into the LHS for show some weeks ago.

The idea sounds pretty workable, since the chainsaw clutch already has a gear on it, which can be used to gear down the drive shaft speed. I suppose you could also use the centrifugal type clutch in weedwackers if you want an "automatic" clutch, though I would recommend a failsafe engine cut mechanism in case the car/ boat get into a runaway situation with the throttle somehow stuck wide open. Judging by how much at hit by my E-Maxx can hurt, a 40lbs car can do some serious damage.

Status: offline 		So nobody knows what the crankshaft looks like? Using the stock clutch might be an option...but I would still like to know what size/shape crank it has...

Status: offline 		The crank has a taper shaft on one end with a flywheel on it for the spark, and a straight shaft on the other end with a centrifugal clutch on it for the chain....they're all the same....
the taper end has an 8mm right hand thread on it, the straight end has a left hand thread for the clutch....
