I havent ever heard a nitro engine backfire that i can think of. Does it make the noise while you are cranking or right when you stop cranking?

I have however, had one of my old nitro engines run backwards. It was wild to see a nitro with no reverse start driving in reverse!

its not really like a real cars backfire but more like its building up pressure and then releasing it all at once. like a release vaulve on a air compresser.

maybe something is clogging the exhaust port or its building up too much fuel and giving an air release type of sound?

That's what I was thinking. I have had engines so tight that the starter was hard to pull.

The way i meant it was that its compression. pull, pull, pull, large pop of air. this is my first new motor so ive never encountered this before. the pinch between the piston and sleeve is ridiculous. I have to almost stand on the car to be able to pull the starter.

Did you adjust your needle settings? Sometimes the factory setting are so rich that the engine won't start. Did you check your plug and igniter?

sounds like your flooding it out, take the plug out, turn it over, pull the pullstart and let the excess fuel out and put the plug back in and try again. Also check your needle settings, 2 1/2 out on the high and 4 out on the low. If its cold out, heat the engine with a heat gun or a blow dryer to get it started.
