I've also been looking into getting a new pipe and did a bit of research on the Buku, and for the price IMO theres better pipes out there. The concept is great and everything but I still don't see spending that much on a pipe. Check this video out, I know it's not a savage, and some engines just might get better performance from the Buku but to each is own..

They are not race legal so I have not paid much attention to them.

Savage Buku on LRP... Buku 4.6.... the idea was always interesting, but the all sounded so lean on the low side, the second video is much better sounding than most I have seen.

i have the Buku pipe, because when i bought it i was all excited about my truck, getting the fancy stuff for it and all that...
that was probably the best $ 100 i ever wasted !!! that is, with a stock engine and no knowledge on how to tune an engine properly.
i dont know what kind of experience or engine you have so i cant tell you if it's good for you or not, but that is what i think of it... now it sits in a box...

def dont get the Buku then... HPI polished pipe i think is fairly decent, i didnt get a chance to really test mine out yet as it's -30 C in my country these days !!!
More experienced guys will give you a broader choice with more hands-on experience though!

I think i got mine for $ 15, cant go wrong with that

why didnt you return it and get your money back then? It does have a 100% money back guarantee ya know. I also find it funny how you admit you have no knowledge of tuning properly but yet give your advice and say the pipe doesnt work. BUKU and all the reviews I have read say this pipe isnt for beginners or the inexperienced. My used 50 dollar rtr taiwanese crap with a BUKU in a heavier truck hangs with a lighter truck that is running a LRP w/ HPI polished pipe. weird how this pipe doesnt work. Oh, I dont run nitro fuel either while he is running 20% nitro. Must be magic my truck runs so good. Magic!

Well i talked with Dave at buku today. He said that the Buku will not work on the K5.9 b/c there is not enough low end RPM's to work the pipe. But i want the pipe, so now it's engine shopping time. He also said the best engine pipe combo is the LRP Z .28. I'm not sure if i want that engine or not. I might get an RB or nova. well back to shopping.

Instead of getting an LRP/Buku combo, why don't you spend LESS money and run a Picco/086?

The BUKU pipe has proven that it does what it's supposed to do. The bummer is the price.

Your tune is extremely lean in those video's... your breaking up on top end, and lean cackling when you let off..... So to me right now that Buku really isn't showing anything at all...... richen your needles and shoot some more video so we can see what the pipe can do with a proper tune...... So far based off those videos the pipe isn't doing anything special at all...... The motor is not holding RPM well, its breaking up due to lack of fuel, and the low end is snappy, but you have the settings extremely lean...your so lean that you are actually losing power.......... Give that motor some fuel and you see performance go up as well as engine life.... Based off those videos the pipe is doing nothing special whatsoever..... ( I am not intending to bash the pipe either, your lean tune is killing its performance so its hard to judge)

I should add... I am by no means intending to insult or discredit you, my comments are not intended to be a personal attack in any way shape or form...I am commenting 100% on what I see in the video with no other intentions.....

i got the pipe in early winter so i only got a few days to play with it here and there and went past the 30 days guarantee. to answer on why i give my advice: i DID SAY that if, like me, you're a beginner with little or no knowledge about tuning, THEN the Buku is not for you. I didnt say the pipe is no good no matter what you know or what you run, right? Here is what i said: "i dont know what kind of experience or engine you have so i cant tell you if it's good for you or not"
if people buy, use and recommend this pipe, then i agree that for some applications, with the right engine and the right guy, it probably is a good pipe.
Not for a beginner, that's all i was getting at... but i'm glad that your "$ 50 taiwanese crap" runs so good, my $ 600 wherever-its-from Savage did not run any better with the Buku, that's all...

Hilifemt...

I think you have some awesome videos and I wish I had a place that nice to run. As good as the videos are, I do not think it is the Buku or power that makes them, it is all about location, location, location..... I read another one of your posts in which you said you have moved and no longer run, sorry about your loss man... hopefully you have some fellow RC guys in your area so you do not become the Lone Ranger like I have been. I am sure an 086 is perfectly capable of giving my truck the velocity to sail through the air with ease, like yours does.... I hope your new area is a little more exciting for locations than the flatlands of Kansas.

I also wish I had a decent camera and somebody to run it, but I am stuck with parking my camera someplace and trying to stay within the limits of the screen. I know you are always dogging my videos as boring, but that is what I have to work with. I wish there was another active RC runner within 60 miles of home.... it is farther than that to the nearest decent hobby shop for me.

As far as the Buku goes, they all sound extremely lean on that pipe to me. I never tried it as for another 30 bucks I can have my engine modded for more power. I am not knocking the pipe at all, it just seems like it is borderline novelty-Inspector Gadgety to me.

Glen

John Schultz from HPI successfully runs a BUKU on one of his Savages. One of the major RC mags did a review of a BUKU on the Revo a little while back and they found gains. I guess it's all objective.......or maybe not. Dunno.

John Schultz won the small block class with a savage. He put a .18 size engine and BUKU pipe and won it. Anyways, after talking with Dave from BUKU for the past 2 days i went ahead and have one coming in the mail. Now i just need a motor.
