OK so Ive played the demo on both sims, for the demo I think RC planemaster has more realistic flight and ground handling. However, the demo on Cklearview locks you out after so many seconds of flight. Ive used mine up. So now I cant re-examine it for comparison. I originally DL'ed Clearview to see how much better than FMS it is. FMS is great for the price, free, but I want realistic flight and most importantly landing characteristics.

I found RC Plane master, but its a bit more than clearview with shipping, it does seem more realistic on landing. Actually if anything landing is harder on RC Plane master than in real life to do without damage. I've not enough stick time to really judge the flight handling well so I cant really compare that.

All in all I can shell out the $$ for either in a month or two, but I want the best for my purposes. I cannot afford any of the so called "Big boys" (G4 for instance)

OK... I will assume the resounding lack of responses means everyone who uses flight sims is either using FMS or pays the big bucks for the big boys..

I'm surprised you describe RC Plane Master as more realistic than ClearView. RC Plane Master/RC Flight Master looks to be an attempt to take the FMS source code and punch it up with a nice menu and a few new bells and whistles to sell it commercially, nothing more. I downloaded the demos for both Plane Master and Flight Master and found them to be very disappointing.

ClearView, on the other hand, I found to have surprisingly good physics. The demo version comes with the 4-channel trainer as flyable, and I found it to feel far more realistic than trainers on even more expensive flight simulators.

To be blunt, I normally fly Real Flight G3.5. I recently registered ClearView to unlock the full flight sim, and I find it superior to RealFlight G3.5 in several ways.

Trainer flight physics on ClearView feel more realistic to me. The trainer floats in very naturally and exhibits fairly accurate gliding characteristics. On RF G3.5, cutting the Nexstar to half throttle causes it to drop like a rock and it seems barely flyable.

I'm no helicopter expert, but I've found the helicopters in ClearView to be modelled as well as RealFlight G3.5. I expected that helis might be a weak point with ClearView, but it doesn't appear so.

Indoor flying physics feel much more realistic to me with ClearView. I flew the E-Flight Tribute around inside a gymnasium on ClearView for about 30 minutes and was delighted with how realistic it felt. To compare it, I loaded up RealFlight G3.5 and flew the FlatOut Cap580 inside the Athletic Club gymnasium, with both airframe and flying site on G3 Expansion Pack #1. I actually laughed out loud when I first went to take off with the Cap580 and felt how far off the physics were on RealFlight G3.5 compared to ClearView.

Clearview is a terrific flight simulator with good graphics and a wide array of accurate flying models. It is an absolute bargain at $39.99, even if you have to spend another $20 to $25 to get an ESky USB controller to fly it with. Based on my experiences with the RC Plane Master demo, it shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as ClearView.

Good thing that GreatPlanes continued to work on the reported problems and bugs and regularly releases new versions and updates. It's no consolation to those stuck in the past for whatever reason, but it's a great comfort to those of us who can and wish to have 4.5 available. I think 4.0 had 8 or 10 updates, improvements and I know I've installed 2 updates to 4.5. They seem to have made the world less forgiving and from just flying the Nexstar (after seeing your observations of it) it appears to be pretty lifelike. I've got a student with one. He also has 4.5 and is using both in his development. Unfortunately, I don't have Clearview, but it's price certainly would be good for many. And from what you say about it, it appears to be a safe recommendation for beginners to try. What trainer(s) does it offer?

ClearView (hosted on http://rcflightsim.com) offers 40 planes and 40 helis stock. The trainer planes are Aileron Trainer (60 size glow trainer), Basic Trainer (60 size 3 ch. glow trainer), Magister Electric, LazyBee, LazyBee floats, Sportster, Agri Duck and Bellanca Decathlon - all these are good trainers. Unlike any other sim, ClearView offers life time upgrades and free extra models - any one can create ClearView models and many hundred models are available on the web for free download. We like the ClearView flight model. In fact, we think it is the best flight model that you can get now, regardless of price. The new v6 physics let's user create ANY flying model - if you can build it in the real life, you can build it and fly it in ClearView - planes, helis, multi prop planes, multi rotor helis, VTOL's, autogyros, even birds - you name it - you can make it.

I have owned clearview for quite a while now, in the advanced model setup you can lower the speed at which any part touching the ground breaks.

Use this to set up a very sensitive landing/crash. I also have raised the speed at which certain planes stall, such as the P-51, this makes for a much more real landing scenario.

The great thing about clearview that you do not get with other pay sims, you can adjust the model characteristics to fit the closest to real life then fly them. If you do not know what those settings are you can usually google recommended settings other then the model default.

I have an SR-71 blackbird that I have tweaked to fly well at 300mph just for fun,it took a lot of work to make it work.Anything is possible. With the AC3d or similar cad software you can import every model from fms, not to mention there are hundreds of pre made models available free. Bottom left corner to see airspeed, hehe.

Clearview does sound like an excellent value.

It's price of $40 really is outstanding in this marketplace today.

And lifetime upgrades is a heck of a deal. Clearview just might be the best value of all thanks to that consideration plus the price.

Another happy ClearView user here. For a controller I had tried a couple of work arounds and cable adapters, but when I got the Esky 0950A USB four channel controller I was set. It's USB so there are no connection issues. It doesn't use batteries for sim flight. Just for the record, take off the back and give a little squirt of contact cleaner or WD-40 to the pots so they work smoother. It really does help. Anyhow, the 0905A is about $30, so you'll have $40 in the sim and controller. I like having setup variables like Expo on the controls. And when you are just beginning you can adjust the real time to slow things down a bit. All in all, it's a pretty good deal. Yeah, I like the excellent look of the high priced sims, but at well under $100 the ClearView sim is fine.
It's 4 channel, but F1 through F4 control Idle Up and Throttle Hold so you can fly collective pitch helicopters correctly.
Now if the ClearView folks would just add retractable gear . . .

There are a few CV models that already have retracts. I think one of the jets does. I don't really use retracts myself but CV does support them.

I will certainly agree with da Rock that Real Flight G4 is a big improvement over G3.5. I reinstalled the G4 demo and flew the Nexstar for a bit. It's much more realistically modelled with regard to flight physics than the older G3/G3.5 version. I wouldn't recommend spending $100 or more on G3/G3.5 because it's on close-out; if you're going to dish out the money then G4/4.5 is a much wiser investment.

Spending $59.98 on Clearview plus the ESky USB controller is a much better investment than G3/G3.5. I have tried the ESky USB controller ($19.99 from Raidentech) with FMS and with Clear View and I think it's a terrific value. Once calibrated both in the Windows control panel and then again within the simulator itself, flying the ESky controller was just as comfortable and realistic as flying with my Real Flight Interlink controller.

I have Windows Vista on my PC and had purchashed a Dynam rc flight simutar on Ebay. I could not get it to work with Vista and the FMA software, it actually caused problems with my PC. I stumbled across the Clearview download and like it as well as any simulator I have used in the past. I have been in and out of the hobby for 40+ years and a simulator is an invaluble tool. The Dynam controller works fine with Clearview and now will be my simulator of choice

Thanks guys. I've been flying the sim at my local hobby store (real flight I think 3.5) and have been wanting to buy one. After reading this I downloaded clearview and ran the demo, then paid for it. It was great and only 39 dollars. Keep in mind that I haven't flown an rc plane in over 20 years and just trying to get back into the hobby. As far as the pros go I don't know but for me this was perfect. I can't tell the difference between this and the other. Keep up the discussions.

I have the FMS with controller my wife got me with my Esky honey bee king 2 now I have the king 3 so I was doing some searching for a more realistic sim and some one told me to check out clear view I did and bought it WOW Nice SIM.Lots of options..Now i just need to figure out how to build my own planes and heli's. My 5 year old daughter likes the cars CV has. Now if they just had a Monster truck narley track with the up dated nitro and electric CV would bust at the seems with folks getting it..he he I'll look into the ac3 stuff.

My cousin bought Clearview because FMS wouldn't work on his Vista OS. It appear to be a small step up from FMS. I notice that you could hit trees you weren't even close to. But the physics ssemed good for the price. The only thing I can see that is a pain is the difficulty switching it to another PC. He has since sold his and doesn't know how to get it on his new one. I think he has to email the company and ask for instructions on how to do it. I suggest you buy something on a disk that you don't have to deal with such problems. But again I personally do not own it even though I donated half of the money for it. -BW

I like RC Planemaster. It's inexpensive, comes complete w/controller, usb, and doesn't take up any space on your hard drive. Also, it flys great.
