Ok, here is what I been flying lately one of these http://www.parkflyers.com/html/gee_bee_3d.html I want to get a new foam plane as much like this one as possible. I love the way it flies and handles. The only dislike I have if some of the design, like the fuselage is made with a split in front of the tail. I had the plane break in half on landing and it was not that rough of a landing! Basicly the design has a lot of weak points other then that I love the way it flies. I want something simular but not the exact same brand. I mainly like the thick foam 5 0r 6 mm and other then the weak design flaw the foam is tough and really takes a beating!

I tried a greatplanes flatout and the foam is to thin and weak for my liking. So I am looking at these http://www.hobby-lobby.com/yak55.htm are these made of thick foam like my Gee Bee 3D?

Keep in mind I only fly outdoors and like the size/weight and way my current Gee Bee 3D flies. I just dont feel this particular kit is worth $120. I would rather invest it towards a new plane.

I just bought a spektrum DX6i and I have 3 servo's so I will also probably be needing a brushless motor and controller.

any advice is greatly appreciated.

Start with the acft you like, modify it, build your own better than the original. Yes, you can do it.

If you like your GeeBee you can get replacement parts, e.g. a new fuse for about $16 or so. I have trashed mine a few times, and used the cf rods from the first fuse to stiffen the joint at the rear which has the weakness you described. Incidentally, the servos are not very good and an easy replacement for them are HXT 900's from Hobbycity for about $3.50 each. They also have some foamy kits similar in size etc to your GeeBee which you might consider as they are very cheap.

I did think about that but how would I change my fuse without also replacing my wings? Is there a debonder that works on foam safely.
I never heard of this hobbycity thanks I could save a lot of money on servos, I will be using them.

phoenix426 I have thought about that but I have nowhere to really work and build one. There was a really great guy in our local club that built foam planes all the time from scratch. I know he would have told me to come over and we will build one just like it from scratch but he passed away. To bad he was a really great guy to talk to and helped everybody.

I did find this place read aboutthis plane in my last R/C magazine http://www.lukesrcplanes.com/pb/wp_e5a35d13/wp_e5a35d13.html its cheap and might be exactly what im looking for. I e-mailed them to ask for some more info on the plane like the thickness of the foam and am waiting for a reply. I like to help support small business like they seem to be.

Them look great to. It looks like I have all kinds of choices I just could not find anything searching the net. thanks for all the links.
Now I just have to decide on which one to get and get it built before spring.

Check out a DW Foamies Yak 54 38". Excellent flying plane, with pretty much no coupling, no wing rock, and hovers very easily. Setup light enough, it will fly indoors easily, inside a gym, but this doesn't mean it can't fly outside. I fly mine outside regularly, in winds topping about 15-20mph on breezy days. I'm not a DW salesperson or anything, just a customer who uses Mikes products, and couldn't be happier.

Mike at DW has everyhting you need to build a kit. They build in about an hour (this is from bag, to flying for me

), and assembly is pretty straight forward. Notched parts make the build very straight. Also, any 150-200 watt power system will work. My favorite power system to use is a Himax HC2812-1080 outrunner, Caslte Creations Phoenix 25 ESC, and an Impulse 11.1v 3 cell 13c lipo. Provides unlimited vertical on a 10x4.7SF prop, and less then 1/2 throttle hovers.

Ok I have a new question but I figured I would keep it in the same thread.
