I made this model a few years ago ( http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_1157858/anchors_3879310/mpage_11/key_/anchor/tm.htm#3879310 post No. 274)

I have downloaded a photo of your model sometime ago and couldn't find anything on it later. It's probably the most beautiful pattern plane I have ever seen. Wish I could get my hands on one of those fuselages.

Magne ,you made a really nice airplane and you seem to know really well the techniques .I think two layers are allways better than one with the same weight ,I´m thinking this for my next fuse .About honeycomb pattern I don´t care as I think it looks kinda.. sexy ,if you know what I mean.About canopy flange ,I do what you desribed but I use the hcomb all the way across the edge.
It´s nice when you talk the same language with somebody!

Ciao Elias,
You remember of me?I remember of you in 2003 Melnik F3D WC ( you fly with a De-castel wing and a V tail )and 2005 Tours F3D WC after a week of F3A WC... i am the Italian Pylon racer with long hair
Look great your composite job ,I followed with pleasure all thread...... i also love make my racing plane with composite material ....you can see my thread in this forum http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6633976/tm.htm
I have see in your "work in progress photo" two new F3D Dago .. hope see you come in Germany for the F3D WC in July................The real adrenaline is only in the Pylon world ................................(please F3A pilot don't kill-me )

Hallo !
Paolo ,nice to hear from you ! ofcourse I remember you and Roberto Cavalaro.
Thanks for the comments but ,dont say that in this forum because they are really going to murder you !
Nice plane ,sent me personal mail if you like about racers ,see you in Germany buddy !

I would have finished early if it wasn,t for some trouble with my wings making ,it´s quite new experimental method and I already have tossed two halves ,but I´m on to it and will be ready very soon.Dont want to post yet on the wings as I want to be sure they are functional before anybody makes them this way.
I also need to know if I should post the E-setup on the electric subforum or should I keep it here with the rest.Anybody ?

Hallo to all
It´s been a while from the last update ,the last weeks it was like much work but little progress.
I have been thinking allot about alternative to balsa for a wing sheeting ,did a bit of calculations and tests and dicided to go with honeycomb as well .A honeycomb panel for wing sheeting is made of 25glass inner ,1.5mm h-comb and 50glass outer. The result is a panel in the 200gr/m region and that is equivalent to a good light balsa but the panel is glassed and sealed ready for paint .Problem I had where rediculus to what I expected .For some unexplained reason , the foam core panel did not like vacum pressure at all ,after making 3 sets of wings and even with -0.2 bar deforming the foam ! wrecked some 2meters of honecomb material finaly managed to finish the main constr of the wings ,so here is the procedure.
I milled a channel in the foam for a 4mm carbon tube to fit flush.
The h-comb panels where vacumed in a waxed melamine board.

what is importand in this procedure is to pass the carbon tube through the root rib and wing tube balsa block .This way the forces are distibuted evenly after the end of the main tube ,after all it´s the carbon 4mm tube that prevents the wing from collapsing ! Anybody using this method please be very carefull!

Elias

Each wing panel finally weights 280gr ready for balsa LE and Ail LE .Trailing edge is just epoxy microballon mix. Best part is that the panel is rediculusly srong !! far sronger than anything I ever made or got my hands on .This means that it´s possible to make it even lighter ....

The main tube hole was drilled using my new drill jig .The angle difference for the fuselage side parallelism was calculated according to the plans (9mm difference) and set to the jig.the panel was put flat on the bench (0 dihedral on top) .You can see the reference hole on the jig showing it´s prependicular with the wing root when aligned in another hole (not showing ) in the fixed part of the jig. This way I can measure the desired difference I need. The parallelism of the tube to the bench was mesured with a caliper from the top of the jig that is highly accurate. Cutting tool is an alum tube that has the tip shaped acordingly.

here is the tip after cutting through the balsa block.Carbon tube sleeve was set with epox-baloon mix ,but important , the balsa block and root rib holes are weted with pure apoxy first !!

Very nice weight Elias . . I think you will like the accuracy of snaps .

Did you remove any foam before sheeting?

It seems that you could remove more foam using this method than with traditional wood sheeting . . or is the glass sheet too flexible and will deform into cavities?

Cheers, JB

Hallo
I think that next time I put no foam at all ! But there must be a ribs construction .I would never know in the prototype..

hi Elias
congratultion for your work ;I think you are ready to make composite moulded wings by using 2mm herex ;herex is available at RG comosite in Germany ; you can get a fully finished moulded painted wing at at 380 g;elevator at 100 g; personaly I use light balsa ( 11 g each board , also available at RG composite) to make the fuselage 10 boards which must be fitted in the mould; I get a fuselageat 660 g and the full model ready to fly with the Yamada 170 at 4.7 kilogs

hi Guille ;herex is the cheapest and lightest material that can be used in our hobby; the herex used to make wings or fuselage is the yellow one ('density 55 kilos/m3); you can buy it at RG composite in Germany;herex is a PVC foam used in composite industry; Rohacell is a similar product used in aeronautic industry but is more expensive
here is the adress of RG : www.r-g-composites.com
last point : there are several density of herex ; I use also the green one which is 75 kilogs/m3;

Hallo
Yves you are correct ,in mould construction is superior and that is my plan for the future , but you have to be settled on the wing desing :-)
Nice plane and super light wings !!
I have made a bid of work on my motor mount ,I designed and made a back ring that uses o ring just like nose rings for glow engines ,I think it´s nicer and works quite good compared to the tygon-ply ones here are some pics..

Hallo
At the end of last week I managed to assemble the plane ! Wings got finished with a typical balsa LE and aileron frameup.I was so happy to find about the overall weights wich is 3350gr ready to fly without batterys.I assebled the plane with a pack of A123s(11s 2P @1700gr) ,here are some pics.
