That looks bl**dy fantastic Elias!! 3350 g! Go 123's

When did you find the time to make the landing gear and pants or did you have those around? Hey, it looks like you have a CF spar running down the length of the wings. Perhaps I missed it but how were the wings layered up? Is the CF a solid cured piece or is it CF mat? Lately, I've started to add CF "spars" to foam cores in the build of pattern classics (photo attached) and very pleased with the results!

Elias, I'm glad you've paved the way for 11s2p (4600 mAh) on A123's. Perhaps it's been done before in 2m pattern but I've yet to find any info on line for such an arrangement and have been tempted to do the same for 10s lipo configurations as well as 9s2p for 8s lipo configurations, particularly where swapping packs is undesirable. I imagine you intend to use that single arrangement without swapping and recharge the two separate 11s packs on board (in 15 min no less!) - the only question is, what charger is able to charge 11s 123's? Perhaps your setup consists of 4 packs arranged as (6s5s)2p requiring 4 chargers? Would really like to see and hear more about how you went about this.

Perhaps you switch to lipo's for competition (sound like you're a tad over 5 kg AUW with 123's)?

David.

Friday evening I was even happier as I managed to do the first flight just before it became dark. The original impression is that the plane flys straight with only the slightest coupling of rud-ail mix that could also be managed by the rudder shape.Other than that no other mix is needed ! Snaps are crisp and precise and swept wing looks really nice and stalls clear and straight. There is some work on the differectial to be done since it´s quite different to what I have flown so far. There is absolutely no pitch coupling at knife edge something that made me smile on my way back since I did all the work with the movable stab sys
During the weekend I flew the plane with lipos thanks to my dear friend Alex (buka). With a final weight of 4500 ,the feeling of such a light plane made me even happier :-))
The only thing remaining now is good paint job and the plane is set ! Shortly will start on Nr2........

Fantastic Elias . .

Good guess for the stab position

Great overall package. Looks good with NO paint

Well done. Thanks for sharing your building with us.

Cheers, JB

The plane looks awesome , do you plan to paint it or cover it with iron on

Elias.
Nice job, well done.

I flew about 100 flights last summer with 11s2p A123, worked quite well with a Hacker C50 12XL motor.
I made two packs, and recharged @20A in 12 minutes from mains supply, or @16A in 15-16 minutes using a small generator.
The charging was done directly on a Hysys 5020E power supply. (Max. 50V/20A)
This power supply works just like a normal CC/CV charger, no need for a separate charger. (NOT recommended for Lipos, but ok for A123)
I found that the 11s2p packs contained JUST enough energy for a P09 flight, with not much reserve.
(on A123 you don't need to limit your consumption to 80% of the pack capacity, but when it is empty, it really stops dead.)

What is the final weight of your wing panels?

Regards,
Magne

Hallo
Thanks for the comments !
The legs are ZN long legs ,the pants I made with my own mould out of carbon.
The wing spars are carbon prefabricated tubes 4mm outer.
About 123s I thing they are super cells but just not for competition ,who would like to fly a plane in a competition more than 500gr heavyer.
Magne your method is definately the way to go ,a guy over here charges them directly from a set of led batterys.
I just test flown them for trimming ,will definately go for the lipos and I´m about to decide what I´m getting.
Wing panels are not as light as I wanted them to be ,weight is 340gr less servo and paint .I guess 470gr all up weight with sevo(8401) and paint .Will be making a mould for the wings in the future ..

cheers
Elias

Hallo !
Finaly I managed to paint my plane ,it was quite adventurous since it was the first time for me to use water based acrylic car paint ,quite furstrating at times when paper tape soaked in moisture got saged (you can imagine at wich part of the plane !) anyways the result came quite ok ,maybe a bit heavyer now (havent weighted yet)  but I really dont mind...
so here it is ..

Elias,

absolutely fantastic! Bar none, this is the best scratch project I've ever seen. From inception to completion a real tour de force.

Bravo!

Now, you'll just have to find a way to allow the rest of us to enjoy the fruits of your considerable labour... any plans to kit the model?

David.

Hi Elias,
This is a very nice paint scheme.
I hope that the flying qualities are up to your expectations.
We now await your report of flight tests.
Anyway, thank you for sharing this experience with us.
Best Regards,
JClaude

Thank you all for the nice comments !
Sorry but there are no plans for kiting the plane ,I would never find the time ,someone else would have to do it and it would need a very reliable and good manufacturer for me to trust my moulds !
The T-can ,i had some rolling issues ,kind of barrel like ,they completely dissapeared when i removed the can ,i bet it has to do with incidence ,I think I´ll play with that after the WC .now the rolls are axial and precise ,I really love how this plane handles ,knife has no coupling at all and snaps are crisp and clean (I like the violent ones not the lazy ones). There is a slight pitch to the canopy on uplines and downlines ,there is absolutely no yaw in uplines regardless of speed ,right thrust is right on and it is only about  1deg ! Plane can fly pretty fast if needed in high wind conditions and I´m about to recieve my competition jeti90(currently using the simple) for setting my brake on downlines.

will be posting shots of inside setup soon..
Thanks egain for all the nice comments !

Like?

I'm with everybody else, I think it's some awesome work. It's different. What I DO really like is the nomex construction. There are only a handful of people that can do nomex and do it right. When it's done properly it's as good as it gets for composite fuses. The stiffness approaches wood planes. The key is the weight. Looks like Elias nailed it.

I love the color scheme too!

-Mike
