Well I hope you guys can help me out here.I went to a auction a couple of weeks ago and bought a really nice old old timer. It is all complete with 25 size motor servos and receiver and transmitter.
This thing has a build date on it of 08/88 and looks to me to be a very good build job.The battery for the receiver was bad so I removed it and also took out the fuel tank and replaced it and all the fuel lines and check it all out other then the CG which I should have checked before I removed the old battery and tank so now I think I have it ready to fly (as soon as the weather warms up).
Can anyone id this old time? Does it have a name?? and where do I set the Cg to start with?
Thanks
clocknut

For CG I would start at either the main wing spar, or at 25% of the wing area, whichever is further forward.

I was in the same senario as you..... wondering what I had.

Check out my thread in this same catagory.....(Vintage style airplane project What is it?)

Yours looks an awful lot like my "Commando" (but not exactly) Mine's a little bigger.

I think (from experience with mine) a good starting point for the C/G would be between 25 and 30%. I had mine a little farthur back for maiden flight. It was hard to control.

Well guys it is suppose to be almost 50 here today in Iowa/Nebraska and no wind so I can't think of a better time to fly the old timer (no name).
I looked once again on my auction ticket for description and the card says? (Boy ridge Mike) if that makes any sense to you because it sure doesn't to me.
well I'll let you all know how it goes.
Thanks

I think it should say "BAY RIDGE " MIKE . Bay Ridge was the name of the company that made the kit . They also kited the Pacers by Sal Tabi. Very nice kits . MAX H.

Go down to about the third paragraph the plane was $3.95 in 1938

AD2224 MIKE 50 BAYRIDGE KIT PLAN $7.00

http://www.antiquemodeler.org/2007%20Champs/2007champs-results.htm
Ray Heit, designer of the Bay Ridge Mike, Scrappy, Scram and Thermal Magnet (among other airplanes) spoke at the banquet. He gave a nice talk and was available to answer questions. He and Sal Taibi flew in the TAMBE club in Brooklyn during the mid 30's. Ray's a good designerbut was asked if he'd had much contest success during those years. He didn't seem to recall much contest success on his part.

Wow guys that is great thanks so much for all this info.
Does anyone know how long this kit was available? As I said it had a date in it of 8/1988
Well I took it to the field yesterday but I had problems with the radio I had controls and then I didn't I thought I fixed a bad battery connection and had everything ready to go, fired up the engine and it ran great then I shut it off and as soon as it was my turn I turned it back on and no controls so I didn't get to fly it. I think it would have been like the article I would have found it 20 miles away.
So now I have to figure out what the problem is before spring and then try again.
Thanks
clocknut

I'm having a hard time putting a finger on it, but I don't think that it's a Bay Ridge Mike.

Bay Ridge is the southwest corner of Long Island and is considered Brooklyn. Apparently the model company was located there?

I changed the contrast a little to get a better look at the tail section which is not like the Bay Ridge Mike pictured above. Sure looks like a fun plane to me!

Clocknut - I like your plane working stand - nice and simple yet will do the job for a variety of sized planes!

OK guys thanks again. You all have help a lot and so the least I could do was to take some more pictures. hope this helps.
Radioflier yes I like the little stand it is very simple and you can work on planes or wings of all sizes and best of all it is cheap to make I didn't glue my together so I can take it apart and hang it up when I'm finished with it. I made some for my RC buddies for Christmas and they seemed to like them.
So here is some more pictures.
hope you like them it was 8 degrees out so I didn't spend much time out there taking them.

Yep, a V-K Challenger. I've built two, one for .020 and 2 channels, and one no longer among the living (pilot error). The not-quite-rounded stab tips and the straight-up fin are the clues here.

Well guys you did it! thanks a Ho lot. I wished I would have payed more attention at this auction where I purchased this Challenger at as they had about 20 or so old timers that was covered the same as mine, and they all looked great but for some reason this one caught my eye. My RC friends that was with me laughed when I bought this one and said (YOU BOUGHT THAT THING) what the heck are you going to do with that. Well I like it and I think the $60.00 that I gave for it was a great price for something as nice as this. Now if I can get the flight gear repaired before the next nice day I would like to fly it.It makes me nervous that it works and then doesn't work! Some how I have to make sure.
Thanks again for all your great help
