Their permit was untill 5 AM Saturday morning and they were suppose to be packed and gone by 4:00 am with all equipment removed.
I was not very happy to see all their stuff still at the field by 8:30 am.Their Porta potties were there all day Saturday, which blocked half of the parking lot.
I've filed an official complaint with the Parks film office and I 'm waiting for their investigation report.
As far as permits are concerned, we post all of the permits at the center glass display at the field with the next event being on top.
I really appreciate your concerns and suggestions.

You know, between the film jobs and all the contests, whatever happened to just coming out to fly on the weekends? What about the everyman?

Hi Alan
We are all "Every man". The filming and the events have always been there.
The movie industry people will pull their film permit through the parks "Films Office" and we have no control over it.
The only difference now is that we make them donate some money to the valley flyers.
I have also eliminated more than 4 races at the basin and replaced them with Fun Flys that are free for most part.
It takes money to keep the doors open at the basin.
Between the facility insurance and upkeep to new tables and solar charge stations.
We are also trying to get city power brought in to the Basin.
The parks does not spend much if any for us out there.

I agree that it sucks that the film people stay over. You can thank the producers most of the time for always underplanning how long a shot or shots will take. Yes, they often have an elistist attitude, but most of the crew are regular guys like you and me. Also consider the fact that the park service gets $$$ from the permits and while little or none of it finds its way back to the field, it does do some good in continuing to keep the site as is and secure it's future as a viable resource.

It seems like most people don't realize how much the Valley Flyers really do for that field. How many people use the charging station, work benches, tuning stations, break in stations, or possibly the paved runway?? Those amenities didn't evolve from broken props and glow plugs. It's actually pretty sad to hear people say "I hate that f'ing club," or "...f'ing contests/fun flies/movie shoots." We all get to fly at one of the best fields in the nation FOR FRREEEEEE! If it weren't for the valley flyers drumming up the funds that they do, we would all be flying out of a friggin' dust bowl (a la lake mirage!). I'm sure we all have some assemblance of a life that we can go w/o flying R/C airplanes for a day, or (dread the fact) come back the next day

I appreciate the fact that it's a public place that can be utilized 7 days a week for the hobby.

Thanks for your response. The filmmakers don't care about over-staying their alloted time. Next time I'll check with the posted permit and if they're in violation I'l call the real cops/rangers.

Today, I got an email from another flyer regarding this issue, here it is:

"if you looked at the permit, it was posted as follows: fri-sat, dusk to dusk.
that means friday at sundown through saturday at sundown - technically.
whoever wrote the permit f***ed up in the first place."

If that is correct someone needs to verify the accuracy of the permit. If you plan on going to the field after a filming day try to read the permit so you know exactly when they are supposed to leave and if this happens again and they refuse to leave when they are supposed to, demand to speak to the "Locations Manager" and threaten to call the REAL cops. That permit is their promise and it is the law and they must follow it. The police will enforce it if we demand it.

One thing Jason, on the website can the film schedule be prominently posted with the times, or even a scan of the permit?

I work in the film industry along with a lot of other people who fly at the field. It is the largest employer in L.A. and greatly effects the economy here. I also get irritated when I come out to the field and can'y fly but it is free because of tax money, which by the way, the film industry helps generate.

All the improvements are thanks to several clubs although lately the Valley Flyers have been the most active in no small part because of Jason's efforts.
