I think I have found a new passion. I had the best time yesterday flying my new 1/4 scale Cub. Yes I said Cub, It flies for easlily 30 min on one tank of gas. Yesterday was a perfect day, bright blue skies and high clouds made for great flyn weather. I don't think I'm ready just yet to turn in my turbines, but it was really nice to go back to the roots and have some real relaxing fly'n with tons of touch-n-goes and crab in landings over the weeds. I added some REAL OVERSIZED balloon tires for that "bush" look.

Good times,
Billy

I remembered it well.......I attended a wonderful Scale Event there back in the 90's....Never will forget the F-14 Tom Cat with retractable fold-back wings (back then ducted fan jet engines were supreme...turbines were a dream)........ Anyway, Miles Square tried to keep their flying-field opened, but lost to the Golf Course Club next to them that fought for it....

If you recalled in the 90's, when Orange County went through some major financial cut-backs. It was at the same time Miles Square was fighting to keep their flying-field operating. Lots of signatures were needed to keep it open. The list made it's way to the Sepulveda Basin which I supported / signed.... Unfortunately, with the golfers bringing in revenue to the city (lots of it)...
Miles Square was Shut down .. What a great lost...That field was equal to our basin as far as being a wonderful model air-park......

The basin is an accident that has happened and more than once. Ken who often instructs there was hit in the leg bad enough where they thought it was a gunshot wound. There were only two planes in the air at the time. another gentleman(?) was hit in the leg and I seem to remember it severed a femoral artery. Given how much it's used I'm amazed there aren't more accidents.

Most pilots are ok but there is a group of warbird pilots that fly in a very unsafe manner and nobody seems to be able to reign them in.

Week days are my preference. A soccer field more than double wide at the end of my block and electric planes have limited my trips to the field.

I'll be there from time to time this summer. There are still a lot of nice people there.

If you make it to LA and make it to the field, I am usually there Friday morning. I don''t fly on weekends as that is when the crazies come out! I have been retired for over 12 years and enjoy it. Looks like you have a nice place to fly.

Just ask for me if you make it out.

I fly in the "bee hive" on the weekend. Lots of planes in the air but no reason to not fly. There is alway the guy with his 72 or 27 and his kid that just turn on their radio without knowing the rules. It happens during the week as well. What do you mean by "crazies"?

Crazies, my word for more then one crazy person. New word I made up... The old days at the Basin were great. I also belong to a club of Robin's Hobby in Glendale, CA as he is a long time friend of mine and has a small field near North Hollywood, where I live. I fly only electric there as the field is small.

Robin's club is called "the Porta Potties" and they have a big field in Sylmar. As for weekend crazies, I fly on the weekend and I have never had a problem. if your in this hobby..crashing is part of it, hits or no hits.
