hi modeler,
firstly happy new year 2012!!!

our first new e-doors was deliver at Airtech-factory.de, they have mount them in a big MB339 gear door, but seems to don't have enougth torque..... :

so now you can sequence your complete retract with doors, without any sequencer board, everything on one channel , and that's all.

you can let the door open after openning your retract or close the door just after to be scale ( P-51 for example)
you can also actuate canopy or speed airbrakes

more other good stuff will come this year...
christophe

Hi Everyone,

I haven't gone through this whole thread, so I don't know if this has been asked before...

I bought a set of Lado's several months ago. The project was delayed in getting off the ground so I finally decided to build a frame and just test the Lado's out (OK, so I was curious about how electric retracts work )

In any event, I was a little dismayed that the retracts only went down to about 45 degrees and then stopped. No matter what I tried, they will not go any further. One extends a little further than the other by, say, 5 - 10 degrees. They retract fully. I sent a note off to lado-tech.net but so far, no reply after about 5 days.

The Transmitter is a Futaba T7CAP and the receiver is from FMA. The Lado's are on a memory channel all by themselves with all the settings set to default.

Has anyone had this happen to them, and if so, how did you correct it?

Thanks,

Bob

Hi Christophe,

I sent that last week... I didn't have my invoice number (as the Contact info wanted) if that could be the case. OK, I will PM you via here.

Thank you very much. I really like the construction of these, at least from what I can see without taking them apart (though I am tempted ). I will PM you but there are not too many more details to add...

Thank you,

Bob

LOL! So it was a combination of names then... LArry and DOug. Too funny!

Chris, the gear door actuator and the electric tailwheel retract are both way cool! However, #1 what size aircraft are they recommended for and #2 how do we buy them (ie. a link to the products)? Your showing these off, but not telling us what size aircraft they might fit nor where we can go to purchase them.

Thanks!

Hey Bob, a thought has occurred to me here... plug a normal servo into your rx's retract channel (instead of the LADO retracts) and verify that the servo goes from endpoint to endpoint fully. Seems unlikely to me that BOTH LADO retracts would have a manufacturing defect. If 1 LADO was going the full 90 degrees and the other stalling at 45 degrees, then I'd think that 1 was defective but for both to be stopping at only 45 degrees that's just very suspicious IMHO.

Another thought, you can try just 1 LADO at a time plugged into your retract channel and verify that each does the exact same thing individually! Just to be sure 1 isn't affecting them both.

Hi Michael,

Good idea... You're right. Right now, I have them plugged into a Y-harness into Channel 5. I'll do that at Halftime (the Pats don't look so good right now - sob! ).

Thanks!!

the e-doors can be mount on any size of aircraft from an little 40size to an 1/4 jet size.

About the tailwheel you can mount it on an brian taylor plan, for example in 80", up to an 90/94" without problem

you have the description and the dimensions on the international website: www.lado-tech.net

both are in stock and available

Christophe,

Thank you for your email - you were right!! You suggested that it might be the trunions, and when I checked, yes, my struts were much too long for the LADO's. I thought that I could explain it better here with pictures so that others could learn by my mistake.

If you enlarge the first photo, you can see a red line showing how the strut extended well beyond the trunion mount. The second photo shows where the where the strut should have ended (at the end of the masking tape) and how much was left over.

The 3rd photo is another way of showing the proper length of about 3/4" (lower strut) and the overly long one that I had (upper strut). I'm very pleased. And I got to see first hand how the retracts stall when they hit an obstruction, a very nice safety feature.

Thanks, Christophe, for your patience.

Bob

I have a set of "Old Lado 60 size Rotators". Retracts never really had a chance because on the second flight of the new plane, the engine quite at 10ft alt. just after takeoff. Didn't have enough speed to flair and airplane hit hard on gear, bending struts back. However, after removing and straightening the struts the retracts still worked. Just lots of slop now. Found the 5/16" rods were not really enough. They would bend on less than perfect landings. Before Doug disappeared he at least sent me a trunion kit, which included new trunions, trunion clamps and set screws. Had them for several years. Just installed a DLE 20 cc gasser in my VQ P-40 with the lados. The plane is a littler heavier and lands a little faster.

I remembered the new trunions and finally found them. This time I drilled 3/16" hole all the way through the trunions so they have a steel core. Then bought a long 3/16" drill bit and cut off the shaft to use the drill rod for struts. Its plenty hard, found that out trying to file the flat spots. Finally had to use the moto tool. Used red locktite on the trunion, not just the screws but the entire shaft were it contacts the trunion. Blue locktite on the Robart strut screws. I could hardly believe it. No slop at all in one and very little in the other. They work fine. Only two flights on them but so far ok.

Hopefully the "new Lado rotators" are as good as or better than my old modified ones. Most of the competitor's rotators, at least in this size, have too much slop. My next ones will be the "new Lados."

For everyone's information... Lado does sell replacement parts. Trunions are on the list.

You would think the new part sizes would be the same as the old, as I've not noticed any mention otherwise. (nor had any need to fit new to old thankfully)

Right now the Lado's seem to beat the competition when it comes to tightness (lack of slop) when talking rotators. They most assuredly beat the competition on power.

What Lado needs now would be one of two things for their rotators. Either increase the arc to 95-100 degrees or change the design so the axis of rotation is farther forward in the housing. Rotating gear desperately needs to place the tire footprints farther forward to cure ground handling nose overs. In the real world, the Corsair gear pivoted down from very close to the leading edge of the wing. The Hellcat gear had a forward angle when down. Either would be a blessing for us.

Hey, Lado, any plans to release a 95 or 100 degree gear that also rotates 90? Like the WingSpans or the EFlites ???? They've got 100degree and they're worth buying just for that. You saw the need and market for non-rotating with other than 90degree arc. It's even more important for rotators.

RBean: my experience with the 5/32" replacement pins is similar. they bend even on good landings. I may order Magnum's 5mm spring steel retracts and cut them for pins, rather than drill the trunion out to 3/16". I did eventually drill and tap the trunnion set screws for 4mm screws because the 3 mm threads stripped. Worked well as long as you make sure the set screws don't stick up and bind on the case as the gear deploys.

hi modelers,
yes we work on the 95° rotating RS333, but we had to do many things in the same time, so it will goes out for sure, but i don't have any date for them.

firstly i wanted to have the rock solid modification on the 90° RS333 Rotating, here the new picture of them:

as you can see, we have now an 6mm( 1/4) shaft already made on the rotating pin, this make our retracts more solid than ever.

next step the 95° it's promise...!!! lol

I am interested in the LADO oleo struts but have not been able to talk with someone who has tried them. Robart has the steel insert. Does LADO have a steel insert or are they all aluminum? Concerned about stripping the set screw thread. From the pictures I see online the struts appear tapped at the top twice but not lined up. looked to be 90 degrees to each other meaning two flat spots may be required on the wire strut. Why is Magnums stock zerro? Are they flying off the shelf? So many questions.

I have a set of 333's mocked up in a frame, just to see them work. They appear to be very smooth. The sequence, to retract or to extend, takes about 12 seconds. Very realistic. They are drilled for a 3/16" pin. I put in a pin and then attached a set of Robart Robostruts to them using the 3/16" bushing. Can't wait to try them out in a real airplane.

This might answer some of your questions,

Bob

dawhale: I have a set of oleos on Lado's RS-333-85 retracts. The struts i have are all aluminum. They have worked well, even though I have bent a couple of the pins. I did strip out the 3mm threads on the retracts and one on the struts. However i drilled and tapped them for 4mm and they seem to tighten very good now. I also used slightly longer set screws because i thought the original ones went in too far once you cut flat spots on the pin. Some of the upper threads were showing. The oleos seem to work as well as Robart, VQ, Century jet, etc on my 9.5 lb plane.

Oh, the struts are tapped for two set screws and mine were lined up OK.
