Hi Steve,

In fact, it is. The wing tube does not get in the way. I place my battery very near the front of the fuselage.

The wing tube is between two trays, check out the link below a few pics down and you can see the two trays with the wing tube running between them.

Great flying plane, reinforce the landing gear. Or buy the blue kit which is updated.

Regards,

Jared

in my opinion.....dont bother with with hyperion airplanes....your getting a quality like you would from cmp.....and they suck. flying bricks.....bad directions.....wrong cg......parts dont fit......if ya decide to build and fly it....your on your own,......i dont buy anything anymore made over seas,,,,the dealers just make tons of profits....then you will........... and yes you will end buying more stuff to make it work.....then it flies like a brick. this of course is my experience...my opinion.....stick with american made models.....you wont be sorry.

Thanks for the opinion.  And I would never drive an american made auto.

This plane is extremely fun to fly, easy to assemble, does not fly like a brick.

Quality is not excellent.  I'm in the middle of my first stick build kit from Herr Engineering and I can tell you there is a big difference in quality.

But-for the price-a great model.  A friend of mine in my club has been flying for 20+ years and says this is his favorite plane.

Hi Jim,

Good to hear from you.   I've been flying the heck out of the SU-31.  I'm experimenting with the CG now and practicing some basic 3D such as hoovering, waterfall, stalls, knife edge.  Our club is still having a blast racing stock Stryker's we have another one tomorrow evening. I've placed 2nd both times, lost to the same guy twice.

I picked up a Pitts Special Bipe from Herr Engineering and have really enjoyed the building process.  Next I think I look for a 3D stick kit.

Glad to hear you got some time in, I'm flying a couple times a week.

Regards,

Jared

Hi Jared, How's the flying coming along? I was in your neck of the woods for a couple of weeks (July 7th to July 23rd) We were doing some work at our lake cabin and I brought my 3D Sniper that I have floats for and flew it in the evenings after the wind died down some. The weather was great, 70's to 80's and light winds. Only had one day of bad weather during the whole stay.

We are coming back in Sept for a couple of weeks, this time it's just vacation time and then we'll close up the cabin for the winter. I hope the weather holds so I can fly the Sniper some more.

Jim.

Wishing you sunny skys and light winds.

Hauling- A and Afterhours

Followed your thread on the Su-31 build with a lot of interest as I have one I am just finishing the build and getting ready to put in the air. Not flying any 3D ( at least not on purpose) as yet. Considering where I want to set the CG to start. Balanced currently at the factory spec 100mm behind the wing to the fuselage. Is that about where you would suggest for first flight or would you go forward a bit to give it a little more nose heavy handling? I followed a thread on a Hyperion CAP232, which looked similar and a lot of the guys on that were setting the CG as much as an inch forward of the recommended CG to start and than working it back as they got a feel for the plane. If you have any other suggestions for starting out with this bird I would appreciate all ideas
Thanks

Hi dumo01, I'd start out with the factory CG or a little bit in front of it if you have the room to slide your battery(s) forward.
Do you have the same one that aI have, (is it green and white) or is it the later version (2008) ? If you have the same one I have, it would be a good idea to re-enforce the landing gear if you haven't done so. Also you need some way of holding the canopy on. The magnets are not up to the job. I just use a couple of strips of hinge tape on the sides to hold it on, so far I haven't lost it. I still have one somewhere, nesting in the trees surrounding our flying field.

It's kind of hard when your're out at the field by one's self to look and see where the canopy is flying off to, and still keep your eye on the airplane. lol.

dumo01, Good Luck with your Sukhoi 31. If I can be of more help to you, just post and I'll try to do all that I can.

Jim

Wishing you Sunny skys and light winds

Thanks for the reply. I have the green one as do you. First thing I did was beef up the landing gear structure. Guess I will find out if it was enough. Might try to maiden it this weekend if I have time and good weather. I have a couple things I want to do before putting it up. I saw a nice idea for a canopy latch today that some else had done on a T34, used part of a servo arm screwed into the airframe behind the canopy and swiveled to latch the canopy. Going to look to see if that will work and need to add the carbon fiber to the tail. Hoping t not to stress it enough on the first flights that it will make a difference but better too soon than too late for that I guess.

Hi dumo01, sounds like you have it covered. What set-up are you using? Be sure and post your findings after your maiden flight.

Jim

Wishing you sunny skys and light winds.
